Hello all, first post here.
Purchased my '03 DX prot' about 8 months ago, had some initial problems with exhaust rusting out and such, finally got her performing better and got an aftermarket stereo system installed. Seemed like a good time to add a Tach, as the DX does not include one and it IS a 5 speed.
So I looked online a little and decided to just go with a very simple sunpro SuperTach II from autozone, 30 bucks, cant go wrong.
Spent all day today troubleshooting my install.
I have the illumination wire hooked to the remote on signal to my amp, so its on only when my car is on.
Have the ground grounded similarly to where I have my head unit grounded.
Have the needle power wire hooked to an empty fuse socket in my fuse box under the steering wheel. Also tried hooking directly to battery + terminal with same results.
The green signal wired is spliced to the Purple/White wire leading into the diagnostics port in the back right of the engine compartment (looking at it from the front).
The Tach lights up as my amp turns on, and the needle bobs around from like 8000 to 4000 when I turn the car on. It then varies between 4000 and 5000 depending on if I have the lights on, if I rev the engine, and I don't know what else.
What did I do wrong? Where else could I try wiring the signal wire? all my connections appear good and I do have light and needle movement, but cant seem to get an rpm response outside of the voltage change caused by the alternator.
Any help would be extremely appreciated!
