2003 mazda 6i
Im trying to help a friend out. she has a 2003 6i with the 2.3l. CEL is on for cam position sensor and cat running lean. she had a local garage put in the cam sensor and the car started running worse(bucking a bit going down the highway). took it to the dealership and they said using aftermarket sensors wont work and the computer wasnt even recognizing the new sensor. they also said the cat needs changed and thats gonna run her 1200 bucks!?! i know i can get an OE cat for less than 300 but the dealership says using an aftermarket cat will just fail again in 4 months? ive heard that mazda uses a different range on sensors than aftermarket? im trying to get her running again and she needs to pass state inspection so the CEL needs to be off. any help here would be great. thanks in advance!

she will need the mazda specific O2 sensor, look on PG for that. . . or any other vendor. Cat's don't cost that much to buy and install. If you go to the stealership, then it will cost you that much. Go with a high flow cat. Does the same thing, but improves exhaust flow.

onlinemazdaparts.com if you need a new o2 sensor.
You can probably get a cam position sensor there too, but make sure that's the problem first. What code is she throwing?

alca is correct about high flow cats. You won't get a code and won't have to pay sh*t ton at the dealer.

I don't see the point in getting a high flow cat really, I doubt this girl is going for power (or what little you'd gain.) "onlinemazdaparts.com" is the place to go for sure. I haven't had good luck with aftermarket emission products (cats and o2's) to be honest with any make or model. How many miles on the car? Cats are covered 8 years/80k IIRC.
