Mazda CX9 GT 2010 - Copper Red Mica
Hello...I am picking up my 2010 CX-9 GT tomorrow..Excited. But this unit does not have NAV. I prefer my android phone using google nav. But, I would like to use AD2P to stream music from my EVO. I am reading that AD2P is not available unless you have the NAV system. Is this true?

Thanks

Not true. Mine streams from the iPhone just fine, without Nav.

As long as you have the Bose package you'll be fine. I beilieve the standard stereo (non-bose/MID/Display) only has handsfree and not a2dp

Nice...Thanks so much guys..My phone does not appear on the approved list but I will give it a go...I have an HTC EVO on sprint.

Take care

Hello All...Just an update to see if any of you had this issue. I am sitting in my office while my new 2010 CX9 is at the Mazda dealership having them look at this Bluetooth issue I am having. Basically, it is a 2010 Grand Touring but without NAV, BOSE, RES, etc...Just the base GT package. BT handsfree works perfect. I am using a Blackberry 9650 which is supported for BT handsfree as well as audio according to Mazda's web site for the single line display I have. Basically, the issue I have is BT stereo streaming. I do not want to use the AUX jack. So basically what happens is that the BT stereo does not work at all. I called Mazda's BT support line and they indicated that something is odd since the AUX button does not work. What they are saying is that if a AD2P or AVRCP device is paired then by pressing the AUX button on the head unit should automatically present me with an option to select BT as the music source. The AUX button appears dead. However, if I plug an AUX cable into that port the AUX button works. Then the Mazda person told me to go into the voice menu and select "Setup Select Music Player". This allows me to select my blackberry but it still does not work.

I took it to the tech this morning and he said that I should be able to switch to the BT as well via the MODE button on the steering wheel. But when mode is pressed it simple cycles between the FM1, FM2 and AM. It does not go to any other source (Note that I do not have SAT either). He said it should at least cycle to CD since the CD player works. But I did not have a CD in the player...Not sure if that matters. I CAN press the CD button and it works fine via the button.

So, my question is does anyone here use BT streaming on a single line unit without NAV, BOSE, RES, SAT, etc? According to their compatibility page this is 100% supported and should work. The tech indicated that it might not have it. Well, that will not go over well since according to Mazda's site it is supported. I am hoping it is just an issue with the head unit. I asked if it was possible it needed a firmware update and he indicated this was unlikely.

Any thoughts?

Thanks Much

Mike

OK...This is not a good first impression of Mazda sad to say. Dealer called me back saying that I have a type "A" radio and that is why it is not supported. I knew they come back with that. But, that is not what their web site says. It indicates that if you have a single line display without NAV you should be able to do this. Extremely misleading and incorrect info. This is not a huge deal to me since I love every other aspect of the car. I am just extremely agitated since this is one of the reasons I purchased this car and was looking forward to it. If the information on their web site was correct I would have likely gone with the NAV.

Thanks
Mike

I recall reading in the owner's manual that the Type A radio does NOT have A2DP. It only has handsfree calling. I have the Type A radio as well.

Thanks much...Well, I have decided to fight this issue with Mazda since it is false advertising. Their web site as well as their support people have no reference to this. Before I purchased the CX9 I went to their BT support page and it clearly says approved with no reference to Type A or Type B radios. If I would have seen on the web site that type A is not supported I would have elected for another radio for sure. It might be in the owners manual...I do not recall seeing it. But, it does not help too much if I am already the owner of a vehicle that does not support it so I can see it in the owners manual.

So I am going to raise a little hell and will post back the results.

Thanks much
Mike

Yes, I fully understand your position. Mazda wasn't too clear about which audio option to get in order to have the A2DP functionality, pre-purchase.

Anyway, here is the 2010 CX-9 Owner's Manual. Expand the Bookmarks and navigate to 6. Interior Comfort > Bluetooth Audio (Type B). This is just for your information so that you are aware of how Mazda documented the feature, which was only available post-purchase. This information should have been clearly specified in their marketing materials.

Good Luck and let me know how it goes.

Thanks much for the info...Based on the PDF you are correct in that it specifies Type A and Type B radio. BT is clearly in listed as an option for Type B but not on Type A. So it IS in the manual. But, pre-purchase there is no reference at all to Type A or Type B. Moreover, Mazda's support page makes no reference at all to this..Not good.

I will let you know what they say. In reality they should replace the radio. I hate to be a stinker but I spent lots of dough on this vehicle and it is not worked as advertised.

Thanks
Mike

Well, just got off the phone with the dealer expressing my disappointment. It is in their ball park now...Let's see what kind of company Mazda is here. They are clearly wrong here based on information available on their web site.

I will post back to see what they do.

Thanks
Mike

Also, just so I can be prepared what it is involved in replacing the Type A Radio for a Type B Radio? I know the Type B has the 6-disk CD player which I could care less about.

Thanks
Mike

Hello..Interesting...I looked through the entire manual and nowhere does it say BT streaming will not work on a specific Type radio. There is one section that talks about the MODE button and being able to select a mode of playback. On the Type A description it just says FM1, FM2, AM, AUX and SAT. The Type B has another option called BT Audio. That is the only reference.

Anyway, sorry to beat a dead horse on this issue....I absolutely LOVE my CX9...I am just a little bummer about this issue. Seems very basic to me. Low end rental cars for half the $$ I have used in the past do this no problem.

Thanks
Mike

Mike:

Hope you win the battle against Mazda. It is their mistake, IMHO.

I personally don't care for A2DP (I used it between my old cell phone and a Moto headset at office for a while).
It darined battery like crazy... Just FYI.
A2DP was not available at any level for 2008 models.

Thanks Ceric...I have not heard back from the Sales Manager yet. I will give it a day or so. I know it might sound really nit picky but man I was really looking forward to that. If they do not do something to make it work I may see if I can find a AUX to BT device where I could put a BT receiver in the center stack compartment. I could go right into the phone but I am trying to eliminate cables. AD2P in my camry worked very well with surprisingly nice quality via my HTC EVO.

Thanks much
Mike

I have a 2010 GT with nav and use the AD2P all the time for music and audiobooks via my iphone. I don't have the ipod cable installed in my car (?yet) but I find the AD2P sound quality fine. I tend to charge my iphone while driving so battery drain is a non issue in practical terms. One thing about the hook up I particularly like is that the car will pause the iphone playback if a call comes in and then start up again when the call finishes. Sweet.

I hope Mazda comps you an upgrade. Agree that this sort of feature availability should be much more clear in their promotional literature and website. No way a customer can figure that sort of thing out on their own prepurchase.

Hello All...Here is an update...The dealer has basically said there is nothing they can do about the radio itself which I find surprising. I do not understand why a Type A radio cannot be swapped for a Type B but perhaps there is more involved. I have to investigate that one. Perhaps they would need to install NAV, etc. BUT, they did offer to upgrade my system to give me Satellite Radio (I currently do not have that at all) and the usual free 6 months of sirius for free...About a $350 value for the box, install, etc. That is nice and I may just take it since it seems they are not going to bend. But it does not solve my original problem. I am wondering if there is some sort of 3rd party AUX to BT transmitter that will allow me to plug in a BT transmitter into the AUX port. I will need to investigate this.

Thanks again for the info.

Mike
