AC Switch Problem

Alright, it finally got warm enough to run the A/C this weekend so...

When i push the AC button, it turns green indicating on and I feel the compressor kick on.

but

The light will flicker and the compressor will kick on and off as the light flickers. Eventually the light/and compressor quit working unless I have the fan on either the 1 or 4 position. Does not seem to matter whether floor, mix, vents or defrost is selected.

Anyone run into this issue?

TIA,

Brian

might as well, that way they can't really fight with you and pretend not to be able to find it.

Be sure to print out a copy of the TSB and all associated numbering

Went to Jim Ellis on Saturday to schedule an appointment.. they told me it would be $85 to inspect and then apply that to any repairs.

The service writer said it was a SB, not a TSB.

Do you have to take it to a mazda dealership or the dealership where you bought the car? I bought mine at a nissan dealership.

Yay... the MP3 a/c problem.

I switched out the controls from the old ES before they dragged it to the junk yard.

Thanks but that doesn't really address my question.

I realize that.. just making a general comment.

However, if you can come across controls at the junkyard it should fix the problem.

SBs-or TSBs are only covered under warrenty typically until there is a specific warrenty time associated with the tsb (technical service bulliten) Campaigns or recalls are generally covered for all models falling within the VIN range regardless of milage unless otherwise noted in the paperwork. If this TSB is covered then the inspection fee will be waived but i doubt it is covered out of warrenty. I woudl suggest just hitting up mazmart or someone with a wrecked protege for the AC controls

Brian if i read correctly this is only happeneing to you on fan selection 2 and 3? if it is happening on all selections a flashing AC light can mean a couple things but most commonly it means the presure drop is too low across the system and the system needs a recharge. Other items are compressor clutch f-up or the compresor is gone all together.

Gotta go to mazda...the only reason you would take it back to nissan is if you have warrenty through them specifically I.E. Bought a extended warrenty or there was a expressed or implied written warrenty...as i understand GA law requires dealerships to have a 30day 1000mile warrenty on all used vehicles to protect the customer

Kory, the problem is no worky on 2, intermittantly on 3.

How hard is it to replace that unit? Anyone know?

replacing that unit isnt super hard the biggest pain is going to be reseting the cables on the unit but you already did that if i remember correctly. And i have the intermitent problem on the #2 setting myself

Alright, I'm skipping my appointment tomorrow then. I already know it is the bad fan control causing the issue. No sense in paying stupid money to the stealership to fix something I can (with help) do myself.
