? about MS CAI filter element

I have been talking to some friends and they argue that a oiled filter like K&N is best for trapping dust/dirt and that a dry filter like the MS version isnt as good.

What is so special about the MS filter that I dont understand so I can tell them why it is better then oiled filters?

I have done some reading and see that the oil does seem to suck through and stick to the mass air sensor causing CEL's and that has happened on a supercharged tacoma I had. For this reason I can see why a dry filter would be great but what about filtration?

Also should a hydroshiled prefilter type thing be used on these CAI filters like the one sold by Injen?

Maybe, but do you see any OEMs using oiled filters?

Yes I understand your point but those are paper filters in boxes and this filter is open to the elements and claims more air flow hence more everything that could pass though it.

I hear its a very good filter and is synthetic but dont understand why its better and am looking for some detailed knowledge of why it is best vs a oiled K&N type filter.

It filters better than an oiled filter without causing cels due to oil on the MAF, thats all you need to know. Its the best filter on the market and your friends don't know what they are talking about. Look at this site for more info

Thanks for the link that helped alot.

I guess since as they say it is hydrophobic which means it resists water I wont need to run that prefilter net from Injen right?

A friends dad who is really into cars and such said that a dry filter like this is much better since there is no oil so I am with you guys on this and agree that it must be the best from what I have been reading.

You don't need the hydroshield because water won't splash on the intake. You will see if you install it, but the area is totally enclosed and the splash shield blocks the only vents. The only way to get water on the intake is to submerge the bumper in which case the hydroshield won't do s*** anyway.
