Abnormal 'whining' noise from turbo under boost

I'm going to attribute it to something working itself loose. The couplers were a little off center too, so that may have played a part in it.

The motor was totally cold when I drove it, it had been sitting for 6+ hours and had only been driven about 5 miles before that.

I didn't realize our turbos are belt driven...

I just drove it again. It's pretty loud, and only under boost.

its a Drive Belt, if it is worn, cracked, or has oil on it, it would only squeak during startup or under load. just because it hits when boost hits doesnt mean it has to be turbo related.

how come mine was replaced for the same symptoms? its on the other side of the car but only screetched when startup and boost hit.

they even say in the manual the drive belt needs to be checked every 15k miles.

not saying this is your problem, but dont crack fun at an honest try to help.

Shredder, had you posted what you did in your previous post, that would have been much more helpful.

Started it up cold and drove it again this morning, once it had a a chance I did start pushing it a bit more. No odd noises to report. Drove it for about 15 miles running errands and getting on/off freeway without the noise coming back.

There's still the off chance I may switch to the Cobb SRI here soon, so I may alleviate a lot of possible problems in that switch.

Well, I was running errands and got on it after the car warmed up and the noise was back. Looks like I'm going to tear the inlet out and go back to stock and take it to the dealer for a diagnosis.

EDIT - I'm starting to wonder if it's not the turbo, but the wastegate actuator not functioning properly. I drove to school today and was on the freeway with it warmed up properly and it was fine again. I plan on going back to the stock BPV first, then stock inlet and see if the situation changes at all with each step.

I think that means the sound isn't your fault. :P

That's what I'm thinking. I also found the return line from the turbo was leaking when I changed the oil yesterday. I assume that was from April when they replaced the turbo the first time.

Just got a call from the dealer, the turbo is most likely suffering from a bearing failure and is being replaced again.

Given your oil leak at the turbo, it's probably from insufficient lubrication.

What's odd is that it wasn't even enough oil leaking to register a noticeable change on the dipstick. I just happened to find it coming down the back side of the oil pan during my oil change yesterday.
