A Shocking experiance....

OK, this car has me entirely befuddled.. Every single time you get out of it after riding aroudn for awhile. ZAP! The friggen bastard shocked me...

Why the hell is it doing this? My other cars don't do that? Did I piss off the rotary gods by forsaking them to buy a piston car, or what? Anyone else have this issue?!?

PS- I live in TX, so it's not all that cold & dry... Really starting to get annoying.. I think my rightarm is developing a twitch..

LMAO >>>TOOO FUNNY

that happens to me worse then ever in my p5 ..LMAO . i mean it hurts man . but it is simply due to static electricity that we get when we are moving around in the car and since everything is plastic or cloth it has no where togo untill you touch the metal .. and it gets a great charge when you are getting out of the car .. so latly i have been closing the door with my foot instead of using my hands

(wow) Thought I was the only one. All through the summer I was getting zapped once I closed my door...

Same here. Everytime I get out, I get shocked. I'm so used to it now that I hardly notice, but it is funny to see my friends get out first:D :D Anyways I think the only way around it is to get on of those gay static strips that drag under the car.... Ugly as hell.

OMG I can't believe this....I get horribly zapped everytime i get out of my Mp3...I was really starting to wonder if it was just me..the other morning I spilled hot coffeee all overmyself at school when I shut the door and the zzap shuttered mywhole body...

If you hold onto something metal (like the door frame) as you put your foot on the ground, then there's no zap. If you step out, then touch the door, that's the zapper.

This is hilauruos... lol

sttl013, that's exactly what I do every time.

It all started many years ago when my father purchased a brand new 1985 Caprice Classic with Cloth intererior! At the time we lived in a house that was fenced up all arround, but with steel bars on the front. So I will get out of the car without touching any metal, just the glass. But as soon as I reached the front metal door BAM! 320, 000 VOLTS were passed right trough my body! I got so sick of it that I didn't want to ride in that car anymore.

A year later, my father was in a very bad crash with the Caprice, and totaled it in the process. He got a new Blazer and I was a happy man once again:)

Anyway, that's my story with the "zapper"

It has to be a mazda thing it happens to me and my girlfriend... Mainly her though everytime we get out of the car... Gotta love it

You guys should get one of those black rubber thingys that goes in the back bumper and drags along the ground as your driving. Or get one of those keychains which take the zap away. That are some options if the zap is really hurting ya.

I think it's caused when you exit the vehicle. As you swing your legs over to get out your pants (especially jeans) create friction against the cloth seat and creates a charge. Very similar to how, as kids, you'd drag your stocking feet across a rug and touch someone. lol Just make sure your not transporting any computer equipment in your car. Make sure you touch the car before, or another peice of metal before picking up your G-force 4 or ATI 9600..... ;)

i have the same problem as well guys. i could be wearing, shorts, jeans, sweat pants, t-shirt, jacket, anything, and i get shocked all the time! i try to touch the sides of the window frame instead now, instead of the actual door handle, that way i don't get shocked too bad.

Shoulda got the leather seats.

I don't get shocked getting out of ours. Of course I'm using the all metal key and automatically grounding myself when I shut the car off. Jim

Guys and gals,

Just make sure that you discharge completely before pumping gas! I found that if I use my elbow or forearm instead, the shock is not as bad.

The getting gas thing is what prompted the conversation....

Usually I get out a get a nice ZAP when I shut the door between me and teh car...

Today when I got gas I didn't s*** the door, so when I reached for the gas nozzle, ZAP! I'm sitting here thinkin' to myself, "Self, that coulda sucked. Zap, BOOM! Now that I think about it, I get shocked every dam time I get out of this thing...."

and to clear that up. I usually get out, stand on the ground then reach back to close the door, pushing on the metal window frame. When I reach for teh frame ZAP! (mutheR Fu!$&*$!, bastard did it again!!!)

Simple solution:
Open Door
Step out
Touch door frame with key
Shut door

The key will make the metal discharge and absorb all that static electricity. My car tries to zap me every single time I get out of it, and it has been a loooong time since it has succeeded.

In fact, I go around and touch everything that is metal with my key before I actually touch it.. my girlfriend zapped my dvd player in my apartment and killed all of the switches on it; you have to use the remote now. If only she had grounded herself first.

No need to put one of those dangling straps on your car either. The charge accumulates on you as your clothing rubs against the seat, so a discharge strap on the car doesn't help. Some people have tried spritzing fabric softener on the seat and found that this reduces or eliminates the shock effect.

hell no even though it sucks .... now that this thread is here i am going to laugh my ass off each time it happends ... this has got me rollin over here .....i mean .. the gas story ... zap BOOM LMAO ... this is just what i needed to start out my day thanks guys .... see when my wife first noticed it is when she curbed my wheels and i toldher it was my baby getting back at h
