A question about offset and more

So I'm looking at some new rims for the spring.
I've noticed on various sites using my year make and model in their search that many will show a wheel with high offset sort of generically indicating it will work with your car but the offset is like 42 or 45. Seems to be more typical in an 8" wide rim rather than a 7.5 which is usually higher like 50.

I guess my question is a 18x8 rim with a 42 offset going to give me some issues with torque steer or not? What if I want to run 225x40 tires later?
Will that enhance the torque steer problem? What about 235x40? Should I definitely NOT look for an offset below a certain number if i want to run rubber this wide? Have been looking at 8.5 width rims for that to give more stretch and provide clearance but wondered if the 8" would still work.

I'm not lowered and wont be. Running stock suspension and staying that way.

I plan to run the stock rubber on the rims until they are toast, and at this point two of them already are.

Thanks in advance!

Run a +45 18x8 with the stock tires and am even lowered with no problems. Also looks at my sig for other tire sizes I have. I am sort of a tire/rim ***** lol

Thanks for the info. Have you noticed any additional torque steer under power coming out of corners or during straight line WOT runs with a 45 offset rim?

The last thing I want is for this car to start jerking the wheel all over the road when my foot is in it just because I bought a set of wheels with an offset that's not right for the car.

I guess I could play it safe and just buy my wheels from Tirerack and consult them before ordering but I would like to shop elsewhere because their selection is rather limited.

Thanks

I don't remember any increase in torque steer after the install and idk why there would be. I put on BC coils now so the front of the car doesn't hop up and allow for as much torque steer so I haven't had to fight as much as I used to with the wheel

OK well a +45 is about what a 10mm poke more than stock? If you really haven't noticed anything and you track your car, then maybe I have nothing to worry about. I was just concerned about the change in suspension geometry going not only with a wider rim, but one that sticks out from the mounting pad farther than stock by X amount.

Thanks!

You will almost undoubtedly notice an increase in your car's tendency to want to torque steer if you reduce your positive offset and change to wider tires.

I noticed an increase tendency when moving from the stock wheels/tires to 235/40R18 tires on 18x8 et50 wheels. Is it too much to handle? Absolutely not, but anytime you mess with or affect the scrub radius (which you unavoidably do when changing the wheel offset), you're likely to affect torque steer.

I really want RX8's since they give me the width and offset I want and really like the looks more than anything I've seen on these cars. I was just searching Ebay looking at rims and found an outfit making replica RX8 wheels. They look just like factory and cost $479 a set plus $80 for shipping. Seller is called wheelsandcaps.
Not exactly Shinka but hey....no curb rash or scratches either.
