Here's a quick way to get some cold air to your SRI.
I have a Corksport SRI.
What you need.
Original Air duct.
A saw of some sort or miracle blade in my case lol
Some foil
Some tape.
Plastidip.
and about 20 mins.

First cut up your air vent into 3 pieces.
>+++++IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE TO FLIP THE AIR DUCT TO FACE THE SRI OR ELSE IT'LL BE USELESS.

Use the front piece only, the rest you can toss.
Take your foil and tape and close the little side hole, then plastdip it to make sure it stays.

Cut an angle into the duct so it doesn't hit the SRI or your coolant.
Now it should slide right in.

Tada now you have a Cold air duct into your SRI.
This should improve heat control and give it a little boost for FREE!

love it =] now buy some carbon fiber tape at autozone and wrap it up. clean up the edges and then say it cost you 500 bux :P

ill be doing this soon thanks to you.

I didn't get the tape but I cleaned up the edges and plastidipped the whole thing lol. Ever since I got this can of plastidip I just wanna DIP EVERYTHING.

Have you done it yet? did it work for you?

I love it. I actually been looking for a way to actually do the exact same thing but then build a box around the air filter to create an air box, ice box is also what I’ve heard it called. But thanks that is gonna help me a lot.

so when ever i do this ( or the tin foil) a CEL comes on. as soon as i remove it and drive around the light comes off. put this back on . light comes on.

WHAT?? is the sensor getting too much air?

what? that doesn't make any sense. You sure it's not pushing on the SRI or the MAF housing?

i know it doesnt lol but thats the only thing i can think of and nope i did what OP did and nothings touching it but for some reason it comes on when i have it on there lol the cars performance is unchanged so im not worried i gotta take it in anyway in the morning. ill see what codes are pulled. loving this tho. if u sand it and clean it up it looks almost factory with the SRI =] building a box around this would be super simple. but my dream is a CSL type intake/box for the 2. that would be....glorious.

well guys good news.

the CEL was triggered b/c the intake is causing the engine to run lean. lol

so i guess mission accomplished!

so i took this lil guy off and just have the SRI sitting there as b4. no more CEL.

im confused.

also when the CEL would come on for Lean. it wouldnt accelerate normally at all. really weird.

actually, that makes a good deal of sense. the MAF is fairly sensitive to how the air is coming through the intake; several mazdas have air straighteners before the MAF to smooth out airflow (i haven't looked to see if the 2 has one, but check out pics of the Cobb intake for the speed3 to see what im talking about). With this intake mod, you're basically forcing air into the intake at a specific angle that it wasn't tested for, and certainly differently than the OEM intake. who knows that's that doing to the airflow inside the intake, but apparently it's disrupting things enough to confuse the poo out of the MAF. It's probably not doing anything bad to the car at all, but the MAF doesn't get what's happening, so it's throwing a CEL.

I also know from experience that CELs tied to the MAF on mazdas often throw the car into limp mode, which would basically feel like the car doesn't want to rev and is bogging all the time.

the short answer is that while this is a creative idea, I'm just gonna hold out for the box from corksport.

paragraph 1:
yeah thats what i assumed. since im shooting air into it from the front only

i cold box would be better as air would flow around the box thus being sucked up by the intake.

paragraph 2:
this is EXACTLY what it feels like. it wont rev right and or it feels weaker.

ty!

just modded the air duct hose and will run it until corksport develops a box for there short ram...

@Corksport

We need a nice cold air box for your SRI!
