a/c leaking from compressor...

Well, when i bought my mp3 in the winter, the owner said that i'd have to charge the a/c because when he put the turbo kit in, he had to remove it then put it back on. So i told him i'd want it all working before i bought it. Come to find out now, i think the compressor is leaking freon from the shaft seal. this is what my friend who works in refrigeration told me when he checked it out with his leak detector. So, does anyone know if i can replace the shaft seal, or do i have to buy a new compressor? also, how much would either run me.

Not sure I can help you to answer what you need. But, if you need to replace the a/c compressor check at a salvage yard for a low mileage protege unit. I just replaced my tranny with an 03 with 50k on it.
Dealer $2800-3200 salvage yard $400
A/C control unit dealer $305 salvage yard $40
engine dealer price don't even ask salvage yard $700-800
My point is that sometimes it's cheaper to replace it than to repair it
most come with a 90 day warranty also, which is probably better than Mazda unless they do the work $$$.
