a bunch of problems after the attempted fog light mod

2008 CX-9 GT AWD
Sooo...I attempted the fog light mod on my 08 GT following the directions in another thread, and it did not work. Not only did it not work, now that I have re-run the wires back to their original state, the engine won't turn over and the headlights keep flickering where only one will light up. The a/c fuse in the passenger glove box did blow, and I will replace that tomorrow, but upon inspection of my other fuses and them looking fine, I am assuming this is a relay thing. Ultra-Sucky thing is that I just got my cx-9 yesterday! I was not expecting this! I know this may be due to an unnecessary desire for the fog light mod, so please, save the harsh comments as I have done this mod to my other cars so I am familiar with the process.

Thanks in advance for any help....

Are you sure you tapped into the right relay? Just a thought... Also, if you just got the car yesterday...Are you sure this is not a pre existing problem and it just happened to pop up while you were doing something to the car?

Yup, I'm pretty positive I tapped into the right relay. And yea, we drove 300 miles yesterday from where we bought it ...we live in the middle of nowhere...and it doesn't seem like there would have been anything preexisting, but who knows. I think I'm just going to problem solve via trial and error and replace some relays tomorrow and see what happens.

update

So this morning, I troubleshooted the starter relay, and no luck. Honestly, I'm thinking it's just a main relay b/c lights start to blink on the dash and the navi won't display..almost too many symptoms for me to think it is one individual fuse causing the problem. Im going by the auto store later to pick up a main relay and a circuit relay ..hopefully that works..will update

battery

in all my years...i have never seen this...but apparently it was the battery dying. I just had to jump it. I was completely baffled...but THANK GOD and for the help on this forum!

You just got the CX9 used, correct?
This is actually happening quite often in all cars.
When a 12V battery gets old (says 4 years in typical car battery), if, for some occasion, it gets run down to near
dry (such as sitting in parking lot for a long time waiting for sale),
it will have a hard time retaining charges. Read this long ago.
I usually replace battery on achedule. For my 2008, it will happen soon.

I took this picture a couple weeks ago... believe it or not, this person's battery still starts their truck. Have no idea how.

helbigtw,
"Don't judge a book by its cover!"

Maybe the inside of the battery is brand new .... One can only guess.
Good luck to that guy.

Do you think that the mazda batteries are any good. They are selling them at the dealer for 100 bucks but i wonder how much they will charge to install them? Any opinions here would be greatly appreciated. Sears and autozone want a lot more.

Mine is four-year old and is still looking good (I think).
However, after 4 years, you have to ask yourself:
Should I wait until I get stranded in some rainy day or should I just replace it
and save me a day of trouble? I usually go for the latter when I ask myself that
question. I have been stranded twice in the past (yes, both in rainy days) thanks to
dead batteries.

$100 battery from dealer is normal. At Costco, it should be cheaper, but make sure you pick
the right group#, and CCA rating (no less).

If it makes you feel any better, the battery (12V one) of my wife's Prius costs $250 at Toyota dealerships.
"They are special.", so they said.

Ha! "Special" batteries - more and more I am thankful we did not go the "highlander hybrid route." But yea, we bought the cx-9 used, and I think it is going to be time for a new battery soon. Even though it looks fine, it died way faster than I would have anticipated. What got me were the strange symptoms. Anyway - I'm staying away from fog light mod until I can get at least some driving pleasure out of the cx-9. Unfortunately, I am still driving it like a granny.

Anyone who drives slower than me is an idiot!"

Genuine Mazda Battery Special - $99.95
High-performance Mazda replacement batteries come with an equally high-performance warranty! 36/60-month replacement battery warranty if installed by the dealership.

This is what the ad says about the mazda battery at the dealership. If they install it. Which is why i am wondering how much can a dealer charge to install this battery. I can do it myself in under ten minutes. Warranty is only valid if installed by the dealer. I wonder why? They will probably try to charge me 1 hour of labor which is 105 dollars. Sounds ridiculous doesn't it.

I brought my 09 Ford Escape company car in to the Ford dealer for a new battery and sat and waited. It took them 1.5 hours to replace the battery, and I was the only person in the waiting room. (Fleet management would not authorize the parts department to give me a battery and let me install it myself)
