95blkprobe's 02 p5 build

nice, sucks that you have to pull the motor again, but at least you know it runs!

yea i know man. I just finished pulling everything out besides the axles and mounts. I'm going home for the weekend to enjoy the rest of my spring break, then imma try to finish it all next week then get this break in period out of the way.

finished pulling the motor and pulled all of the freeze plugs and installed the new ones myself, now im just awaiting to install my lsd so i can drop it all back in and begin break in

update:
I finished the lsd install and now the motor and all is back in the car. also put in a new medieval rear mount. just have a few things to tighten up and im still awaiting the stock header then its time for initial break in

car is running, just going to check over everything tomorrow and clean it up some, then drive it around a little bit

drove it about ten miles today, but i dont have a plate for it yet. i will be making it "legal by the end of this week and will be daily driving it to break it in.

so, some bad news to share. my oil pressure gauge was acting up and was displaying "1" psi whether the car was running or not. i adjusted the prv as much as i could one way and the other with no change. i then changed it back to where i knew the oil pressure was suffice and decided to move it from my friends shop to my house. everything was smooth and the gauge would act like it was picking up oil pressure then would change back to one then back up to the correct pressure. afer cleaning out the car, i decided to take my gf for a ride since she has had to put up with me through all of this and about 15 miles into the drive, i hear what sounds like some rod knock. so i pull over and stop and rev the engine easily and sure enough there was bottom end noise. i then had the car towed home and i will begin dissambly of the bottom end while the engine is still in the car to see what the problem is. im planning on getting a new oil pressure gauge and adjusting my prv to where i get coreect pressure then rolling in a new set of bearings, and pray it works.

idk what exactly caused the bearing to make noise, whether it was insufficient oil pressure, too many miles on the first oil change and filter, too much load for first few break in miles, wrong viscosity of oil, or bad King bearings.

I will tear it down tomorrow night and see what the damage is, then enjoy my weekend at talladega speedway and return on tuesday and hopefully fix what needs to be fixed and hope it holds together.

late update, but rod bearings 1 and 4 were chewed up but no damage to the crank or rods luckily. i decided to check the mains and i found two astonishing things. when i assembled the motor in the late hours after work and school (bad idea), i accidentally mixed up the main bearings, i put the one with the oiling hole on the main cap and the flat bearing on the top side. the way these motor work is they pump oil into the crank from the oiling hole then it runs out of the rod bearings. this explains my chewed up bearings, but i also found another thing that i was not happy about at all. One of the main bearings were egg shaped and werent sitting flat in main cap. i continued to call the machine shop and found out that the machine line honed the block with the main caps in the incorrect order and never checked the crank for roundness. needless to say, a different machine shop now has my crank and will be turning it so i have all round journals and they will be checking the block for the correct roundness of where the main bearings lay.

with all this bad news, i need to have some good news. I picked up some more parts:

tial wastegate, hks bov, SR adjuatable cam gears, as well as p5 fogs and perrin fuel rail (both not pictured)

well, the other machine shop just called and said the crank is all within spec so they are going to polish it up for me then i will bring by the block and have them check where the other machine ****** up by honing the block with the main caps in the wrong location.
