93 Protege Flashing Hold Light

:
1993 Mazda Protege
Hi,
Last year I got a 93 Protege as my first car, and I love it. For a simple back and forth from school and work, it can't be beaten. It has 140k on it, and the hold light has been flashing for some time. I've read that this means there is something wrong with the transmission, however, it has no problem shifting, no slipping, runs like a champ etc. It is the only flashing light. The check engine light is dark. Is there some way I can get a code without taking it to the dealership? Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Please help

Today I tried for kicks to jump the diagnostic pins and it gave me a code 06. Does anyone know what this means? Where can I find a chart for the diagnostic codes?
Thanks
Malhon

Has anyone figured this one out yet. I bought one for my gf and a week after the same thing happened. Need resolution quick FYI. This prevents you from going into 4th gear on this car. I found someone that said it was a bad fuse but i checked and found nothing. how to do jump the pins to get a diagnostic read out.

Take off the plastic over the shifter tube/bar and take off the console cover below it. Look at the wires that come up from the hollow of the hollow center of the tube. Where they come out at the top and then bend down, the edge of the shifter tube may have cut through the wire insluation. If so, put electrical tape around it and put it all back together. If the wires are ok, keep searching for another reason for the problem. That was the problem with my HOLD button coming on.

it could anything from transmission problems to a speed sensor not working... pull your speed sensor to see if its missing the teeth in the gear.. mine locked up and broke the speedometer cable.. replaced both and no problems since.
