ok im new to the forum so i would like to say hi to everyone. i have an 93 MX-3 GS 5spd, fun little car i just want more power out of it. i also had a 96Probe GT 5spd, (bad idea dont buy a crossbreed of any kind weather it be a Ford/Mazda or a Mopar/Mits its just a bad idea)

i just want to know a few things right now. i still have the ZE i put in my probe but its block is scrap, aka the crack in cly 5 that run from top of the block to about 1/2 the stroke down.

but my question is can i use the cams from my ZE in place of the cams of my K8, i have also be toled that i can use the injs from my ze in my k8. i just have to cip it to get the most out of them.

and the last question is there a crank out there in another engine that can Destroke my K8. people think im nuts for wanting to destroke my engine. but i guess they dont get in a little car like the MX3 you dont need torq like in a larger car.


i have already spent a great deal of $$$$ to bring this car back from the ground. i got it whis holy doors, busted glass, roted fram, blown motor mounts, no brakes/ dying clutch. now i just want to make is sing abetter tune.
 
I'm not entirely positive about the parts interchange between the two motors. I highly doubt swapping the cams from the 2.5L ZE to the 1.8L K8 will work. Even if they do fit there is too great a descrepancy between displacements of the two motors to assume the cams made for the larger engine will be the proper duration and lift for the smaller motor. If you want a significant power increase over the 135HP K8 the best thing to do is get another KL-ZE so you can still keep the same transmission.

i wouldn't put any more effort into destroking the Mazda K motors. They are already short stroke motors to begin with. The K8 has a 75mm bore and 69.6mm stroke compared to the FS-DE in the Proteges that has an 83mm bore and 92mm stroke.

do u know any mods out there made for my little K8?

Check with the guys Corksport.com. They seem to know the JDM aftermarket really well for some of the early 90's Mazda motors.
 
thx i finaly found the lockin dif that i have wanted. it all looks a bit pricey but atleast i know where i can find parts now
 
Hi, JimR! I too have an MX-3 GS,K-8, 5-spd(1992). I bought it as a Lien sale, and it came bare bones, no door locks (stereo equip taken out) Bad brakes, bad belts & broken belt tensioner bracket. Have fixed that, but now it just "died" while cruising. First on the list was a fuel filter. Changed it but still no fuel getting to the throttle. Also, underdash sender, & pump don't make any noise until "after" the key is "out" of the On/Start mode. I notice its geared a little low, too, like can be in 5th gear @50-55mph, with really "Tall" 5th gear. See my posts back on page 1 of this Mazda Group Link (All MAzdas) So far, the only thing that has changed is that the seat belt mech. for the door linked belt makes alot of noise! (Had to pull the fuse) Any experience with fuel delivery problems? I am hoping against the fuel pump, @ $200+, as I am unemployed & nearest parts place is 10 miles away, thru desert. I have been told to check the crankshaft position sensor, but All I have is a floor jack, on a dirt driveway. (Its down in the belt area.) Its a great little car, (when it runs, that is!) Its been getting me very depressed, as I need to get a job and have no trasnsportation, right now!
