'89 B2200 info.

Hey, just got an '89 B2200 pick-up. For free no less, it seems Mazdas find me. Anyway, I wanted to get info on it if anyone's got it. I've heard it's a rebadged Ford Ranger, but it seems to me that didn't start until the '90s. One weird thing is that there is no Mazda Logo. Neither a candle or Flying M. Well, thanks in advance.
 
Is it the boxy style? If so, it's pure Mazda. The rebadged Rangers didn't start until 1994 IIRC.
 
whats your VIN number start with? that will be a clear indicator of vehicle origin.

If it starts with a 1, then it was built here in the US. If it starts with a J, then it was built in Japan.

There's no emblem because that didn't come out til '92(only on the MX-3 and 929)/'93(everything else). Previous to that, Mazda only used the "mazda" text on thier cars. They've had that text emblem since '76, before that they had a more stretched out MAZDA text along with the "m" in a circle(not on many cars though).

Anyway, the B-2200 features the F2 motor, same engine that's in the '88-'92 626/MX-6, meaning you can make an F2T out of it if you want.

It's rated roughly 110hp. If the truck is in good condition, you got quite a deal for free. It'll run forever.
 
It's nice to hear it's all Nippon. It's my new best friend. Then engine's in great shape. I think I can get her to 300,000(about 160 now)
 
I gots lots of good info here. Turns out it was the other way around before '92. Ford was selling rebaged Mazdas as the Ford Courior.

Easier said than done. The B2200 uses an 8V where as the F2/F2T uses the 12V. You cant just simply use the 12V head on the B2200 block, the firewall is in the way of the distribtor. Unless you want to cut it and have no heater core. I would suggest just running Megasquirt and using the 12V head and a blockoff plate for the distributor.
