I'm going to keep my mp3 for at least a few more years,
the issues im having are not that major
squeeks like hell sometime prob. due to ether alt belt or alt.
the other issue is : sometimes the rpms drop down to 0 and then bounce back up.
this happens when i put my foot down on the clutch at low speed(pulling into a parking spot or just about to downshift into 2nd around a 90 degree turn.
yesterday i was coming top a 90, downed from 3rd to 2nd and with my foot down on the clutch it almost died, rpms went to 0 and when i blipped the gas it was rough for a second but came right back.
as far as how many times that this has happened maybe a dozzen in a months time but over the past week it's happened atleast 3-4.
Could this be just the belt slipping, its about 9 yrs old. i hade it changed back when i first got the car new. noticed a small tear in the belt.
ive had this car from 14 miles bran new from dealer and it just turned 79,000.
i dont drive hard.
anyone have anything like this happen to them, and when have yall done your tune ups at.

Belts can definitely cause the squeaking. I changed the belts on my P5 not too long ago. I was getting quotes for around $120 for both belts with labor but ended up getting it done at a friends shop for $79 I think. As far as the rpm's dropping, if they are already low, turning hard while parking could do it. I know my rpm's drop while parking thanks to the power steering. Go to an Advance Auto and they can check your alternator and battery for free. It's a simple 15 min test that can tell you if your alternator isn't performing. They can also do battery recharges is it's getting a little weak. If pressing your clutch directly kills the rpms, it could be something else. Definitely start by getting your belts changed and your alternator and battery tested. My protege5 has almost 130k miles and is running strong!
Hope all goes well

the rpms dropping like that could just be the egr valve being dirty its a pretty common issue on proteges

belts could be wearing and making noise or they just need to be tightened. as for the RPM drops, mine did that too and it was a MAF problem. was an intermitent problem but could also be the alternator starting to go

EDIT: could be an intake leak too. happened to me wen i had a cracked intake hose
