6 speed tranny?

Uhm I saw talk about the 6th speed, and changing the 5th gear ratio. But it seems to me there is an easier way to make it more fuel effecient and get more top end. Change out the ring and pinion gear to a lower ratio ie 4.10 to 3.75. I'm not sure on this but I thought I saw a lower ratio ring and pinion gear set on the MazdaSpeed Motosports catalog. And it's alot easier to change the final drive ratio than to re-engineer the whole tranny. Course by the same token acceleration will suffer.

the gears that are available go the wrong way. Faster Accel...

dude, excuses the drunkeness, but I have had the tranny apart a few times our tranies have thin gears adding another gear would reduce the thickness even more, would result in more striped gears

That's what the protege needs...slower acceleration...cuz, you know, they're quick. What'll they do w/ the final drive like that? A 20sec quarter? lol. However I can see it being advantageous if you're planning on never racing anything, ever, and just using it purely as a daily driver.

The Top Speed would be nice adn with HP you could have the same or Better Acceleration than stock.
