I filled up the gas before I left for malibu, it's 40 miles from my house. My gas tank was half full before I filled up and I filled up exactly 5 gallon. When I got to Malibu, I saw that my gas talk is half full again. DAMN! I knew it's no Honda but That's worse than some SUVs.

hey (scratch) are you sure you are telling us the truth?

You are not drinking it of course...right?

hes busy pushing his car, because he has a gas leak and the nearest gas station is 40 miles back :P

Yeah, the worst mileage so far was last week driving to Tahoe. I always wondered how people could get 25MPG. I had to

A. Strap a mountain bike and Yakima rack on
B. Drive 75-80MPH
C. Turn on the AC, it was 95F
D. Get stuck in stop and go traffic for 20 minutes
E. Climb the 7000ft up the Sierras

But I also got 37MPG by having to drive on 45MPH highways and freeway construction zones at 60MPH

how would i check if i have a gas leak or not?

fill up the car, wait a little bit, look under the car for gas on the ground.

Hmmmm......how long did it take you to drive to Malibu. Sometimes its not just how many miles, but how long. If you had the AC on sitting in stop and go traffic for 40 miles, then you easily could have burned 5 gallons.

I've noticed that the gas gauge is not that accurate all the time...

I filled up the tank than drove 50 miles and when I left the car for the night the it showed full... in the morning as I started the car the gas was 1/8 less... after about 15 minutes driving the needle came back to full...

What I've noticed that I get about 100mi per 1/4 gauge...

for those of us who live in Southern California, we can't assume that we'll get the same gas mileage because our gas here is oxygenated (to meet emissions requirements) and also because of our traffic. NEVER put Arco or 76 gas in your car...they use ethanol, which is crap. stick with Chevron/Mobil/Exxon/Shell (they use not-as-crappy MTBE).

...if you were driving up to Malibu and it was 40 miles from your house, chances are that for 30 of those 40 miles, you were in stop-and-go traffic - that's assuming you were coming from the south and you took PCH.

you never mentioned what time you left your house and what time you got to your destination. those key pieces of information are important...were you driving during rush hour(s)?

I've never really calculated my gas mileage becuase my driving varies day-to-day. I do know that I drove from Upstate NY to Raleigh NC and only stopped once. Thats good enough for me. My Pathfinder needs to stop in just about every state to get home.

On another note, I read that the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth II uses one gallon of diesel to go 1 foot.

Worst fuel economy of any motor-driven thing.

No I don't have a gas leak then.

I think it's starting to make sense. I was in a heavy traffic and took me an hour and a half to get there. I took 10 west and merged into Pacific Coast Hightway. Also, I filled up gas at 76. Now I know why it is so cheap.

I wouldn't be surprised if you got that crappy mileage on your trip. I've gotten stuck in traffic heading up to Snoqualmie pass on I-90 going from Spokane to Seattle, AC on, stop and go for over an hour... results in some pretty bad mileage.

On the note about Union 76 gas... I switched to it from Chevron recently. My P5 seems to ping less when going up hills since I switched. Could be my imagination, but seems to perform a bit better.
