sorry if guys tried first thread i posted incorrectly. ok here it is this is my first car that im modding i own a mp5 2003 with an automatic/sportshift my current mods are injen cai and a greddy evo catback. once i get to about 4,000 rpm i feel a big jump in power. I want to know what is better for my situation to get the most hp i can. I am not going to get turbo or NOS if that makes a difference.

thanks in advance

no this isnt in the right section, since

a) you said you dont want turbo
b) even if you did a header does not exist on a turbo'd setup

that being said, read the forum FAQ below my sig for info on how to not ask the same questions 6,243 have also asked.

the reason im being so vague, is because there is so much info to try to condense into one post. search around for info, especially search for header, exhaust, intake, cams, pulley, etc.

since it's taking as much effor to tell him to search... how about we just give him the big answer?

as of right now, we don't know which is better for the car. the only 4-1 out is the ractive header that is yet to be available. RM and AWR are 4-2-1 and provide around 11whp gains. no one has dyno'd the 4-1 ractive yet. according to the honda folks (who have headers galore), the gains from the header is actually dependent on who makes the header rather than the style of header.

thanks tonkabui for the help i will keep an eye out for a dyno test in the future for the 4-1 header

Essential Speed makes a 4-1 equal length as well.

that's a shorty header that bolts up to the primary cat. it won't solve the problem of the primary cat and downpipe creating the big bottleneck present in our system. but damn does it look good. to get that one, you will also need a downpipe from wagner, for another $450. heh heh... this stuff sure gets expensive.

wagnermotorsports.net also has a header that retains the first cat. I havent seen it, but im pretty sure someone on this board has it....

Those things are more for the people who have to care about emmsions. Like California I guess. The people who don't want to take it off when the go for testing. I know also that in Ontario they have roadside testing and can take your car off the road right there if it doesn't comply. It all depends on what you are looking for and quite posibly where yo want the power. I also don't hink that the initial stock cat is very restrictive either.

shorty header, downpipe and midpipe will cost you over $1000. then figure in intake and exhaust and you're looking at $1700. the gains you'll see are around 12-15whp MAX. given a longtube header ($500 max), intake ($200), exhaust ($500) nets about 15whp, the longtubes are definitely the way to go.

you need to peek under your car next time and look at the downtube. it's tiny. and whoever told you the primary cat isn't very restrictive has it allll wrong.
