1) DON'T USE KENWOOD SUBS!!!!!!!
2) why use 4 subs when one can get the job done?
3) get yourself one good sub and put it in a nice box. remember, the box is more important than the sub;)

I just talked to a guy that was gonna do a custom box in my MSP. He said the fact that we don't have read deck lid speakers makes it the perfect set-up for a custom box. They can have the ports going straight up through the Kenwood grills. This will help keep the trunk rattles down, and give you a much louder sound. It was going to be 2 12's, but it was basicaly that same style, facing the rear seats. $900 bucks. I'd rather get my exhaust and D/P though

I agree with got wake, why Kenwoods subs? Elemental Designs makes some awsome subs that are very reasonably priced. I have 2 12s for around $260 shipping included. It is their "K" series. It has a much higher XMAX for some serious bass.

yeah, alpines type R's are ok, but the K-series from elemental designs blows them out of the water:D and the K-series is their lowest line, while the type R's are their highest line;) are you planning on making the box sealed, or porting it through the holes like 2K3 Mazdaspeed suggested? i highly recomend porting it, but i'm into SPL:p

I have got to listen to these E designs subs you guys talk about so much, are they really that great? how do they stack up against subs like JLs? are they just SPL subs?

i've heard misterT's dual 12 setup and they sound great. i'll be installing an O-series 12 in my friend's car in a few weeks. they are designed for SQ. they aren't a big mainstream brand, but they are extremely high quality. with their flat cone design and woven tinsel leads, they are far from an entry level sub. they weren't designed for SPL, but neither were the W7's. the K-series is very similar to the W3v2 series. the main difference is higher xmax from the ed's;) here's the overview of the k-series:
http://www.edesignaudio.com/ep/overview/10Koverview.htm
the k-series even has higher xmax than a W6v2:p

if you want sweet SQ, sealed is generally the way to go. but i've found that ported boxes tuned low produce killer SQ and more output. you could easily use 2 subs in a ported box to do what 4 in a sealed box can do and still keep the SQ high.

4 10's has always been a favorite of mine and I wouldn't bualk at Alpine or JL subs.
I do find it interesting the Mr. Wake says the box is the most important but then bashes the kenwood subs (nuts). Just pointing that out.

its all good because im not even really a kenwood fan, 1st MP3. do u have any suggestion on makin the box to fit those 4 guys like in the pic?

the box IS the most important part, but when your dealing with bad subs, the box can only do so much;) great subs only need a mediocre box to sound good. bad subs need excellent boxes to sound good. course a great sub in a great box is the best way to go:D if you compare two different subs with relatively the same specs, the difference in sound is going to come from how the sub reacts with the box. and different subs perform better in sealed or ported boxes. yeah i could make the kenwood subs sound great, but why whould i use 4 bad subs in a killer box when i can use one bad ass sub in a killer box and have more and better sound? the kenwoods have extremely low excursion, especially for having a high power rating. i mean come on, 9 mm of excursion and it handles 1,000 watts?:wtf: that's pretty bad.

this next one i absolutely love:rolleyes:

$850-$1000 for a sub with only 13 mm of excursion? not to mention a tiny magnet and very low sensitivity. and WTF is up with putting a fuse on the sub? looks like they already know it will fry if you put a little too much power to it;) i'll keep my brahma, thank you:p

Make the box sealed ported would be a huge box and more of a b**** to build then its worth. Porting through the rear deck won't have much affect. Simply the lack of speakers there gives the car the ability to vent base from any box into the car.

I agree that you should use either 2 12" subs or 1 15" rather than 4 10" subs. I know that the type of box makes ALMOST all the difference, since I have screwed around with mine for the past few months. First, I had a 15" in a small sealed-Hit hard and SQ was good. Then, I turned the sub so that the basket was on the outside- Hit harder- Less boomy-140.5SPL. Then, I turned it back around and added plexiglass, a mirror and a neon- More boomy- Less SPL. And now, I added a port- The Hardest it's ever been and the best SQ it's ever been too-146.7SPL at 1/2 gain. And I recently turned the gain up to 3/4+ and haven't tested it.

I think you should definetly go with the ported box unless you are worried about sacraficing trunk space. And lose the idea about the 4 subs, less mess and hassle with using 1-2 quality subs. Obviously this is only my opinion and is based on my own findings and observations considering I've done a lot of experimenting with different equipment. Let us know what you do and post some pics dude, sounds interesting.
