3rd gear problems AGAIN

damn, what to do...the dealer said everything seemed fine, but no matter what, third gear always grinds when I shift into it, and not to mention it has recently begun throwing me outta gear after shifting into it. Even under easy acceleration, I can shift into third, let the clutch out, cruise along for a second, then WHIRR; my RPM's skyrocket cuz the car has pushed me outta third gear and the car is sitting in neutral why I am still trying to accelerate. It's getting to be pretty annoying, and it forces me to keep my hand on the shifter all the damn time. Any ideas? If worse comes to worse, the dealer agreed to dismantle my tranny to look for problems...its just that I'd rather not have them take stuff apart unless I know its necessary.

yeah, I get an ABS warning too at 85 mph for what would seem to be no reason at all...it pisses me off...

i get kicked out of 3rd gear too...about a 1/30 chance of it right...i usually under normal driving skip 3rd and shift into 4th

if it grinds when you shift into it try double clutching

if it doesnt grind you know your syncro for 3rd is screwed up

in a porsche 928 I drove the syncro is screwed up in 1st and 2nd and it kicked out of them a couple times, but not in the other gears

thanks, I have tried double-clutching, and it seems to work sometimes...I just hate the fact I have to double-burn my clutch, ya know?

well the first time you engage the clutch while double clutching theres very little it has to handle so its not really wearing it out much more. you can basically dump the clutch and it'll be ok

I had problems with my third gear b4 in the past. Got it all fixed syncros replaced and so far everything has been ok. Have them take it apart it sounds like you need new syncro's sort of a common problem. Make sure you put in some synthetic tranny fluid afterwards, it also will help.
