Hey kids-
when i shift from 2nd to 3rd at about 5000-6000 rpm, i get a grind when i shift into 3rd if i shift any faster than a normal shift. this happens even with the clutch all the way to the floor. have you guys had any problems with this?

try changin your tranny fluid. i had the same problem, except i grinded thirid at all rpms. i would have to wait a couple of sec to shift. i put in 2 quarts of penzoil syncromax for gm vehicles and one quart of lucas oil stabilizer. i have never grinded a gear since than, and i would recommend this bc it will most definetly fix the problem. it only cost about 20 or 30 dollars, and it is definetly worth it. just my two cents

ya might try the oil stabilizer myself. heard from a couple of people that stuff works on our transmission(stops the grinding) even with 3 quarts of royal purple it still grinds. try redline next mayb.

thanks! yeah i heard the Redline was one of the better tranny fluids - has it worked for anyone?

I have a P5 with Redline MT-90 in it and still grind going into third. Mostly when cold though, and 'round here that means -10 C.

dam... thats not that bad. i have royal purple i grind goin into third from like 3k rpm... i know for a fact my clutch is disengaged, because i push it all the way to the floor. i use 3 quarts royal purple still have grind. and right now its cold but nothing lower than 30 average. shoudl be getin warmer soon.

im tellin u, try penzoil syncromax or snycromesh, i forgot which one its, for gm vehicles, it works wonders! me as well as a few of my friends use it, and none of us grind gears, no matter how hard or at what rpm's you shift at, cold or hot, my car always shifts good now that i changed my fluid! i have tried all the fluids, mobil 1, redline mt90, and royal purple, and nothing compares to penzoil!

Yeah def try to go synth tranny fliud. I was grinding ALL the gears and switched to redline and in about two weeks of it settling in i had BIG smile. good luck!

I can't believe I owned this car for 5 years without knowing about that TSB. I thought is was just the way the tranny is. I hate that shift. I feel like I'm gonna break a shift fork if I jam it hard

well i have never heard of adding fluid takin care of a grinding noise when power shifting.. that only temp. hides the problem.. the real problem is your 3rd gear sinkinizer(how ever u spell it) is bad. you need to get them replace. when you do one you mine as well do all. it is a common problem on all trannys but on my 02 protege lx i them replaced twice already
