Got my muffler here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-F...Parts_Accessories&hash=item35bba2fa8b&vxp=mtr

Made by Focuz, its stainless steel and it has a 2" inlet and 3" tip with the bluish titanium look at the end of the tip. Includes a silencer. Looks exactly like the ebay photo.

It arrived well packed in excellent condition, and looks like a quality peice. Much better than I expected at $37. Its very small, and the muffler diameter is only slightly larger than the 3" tip. Looks nice on the car, the 3" tip does not look the least bit obnoxious. With the silencer in, noise levels are just about right. You can hear the car but its not loud. Oddly, as revs climb from midrange to top-end it does not get louder. Decent pitch, not raspy, but maybe a hint of buzziness.

Take the silencer out, and it gets fairly loud. The tone improves and sounds deeper. Too loud for me except for track use though. Power does seem to improve with the silencer out, seems to pick up a tad up top (at least by my butt dyno). Now the db's go up with the higher rev's unlike with the silencer in.

Overall, I'm very pleased with my $37 purchase. I'll leave the silencer in, and take it out for track stuff or if I won't have the kids in the car.

Might be a stupid question...

Is this a slip on muffler lol? Like an exhaust tip?! Or do you have to weld stuff.

Its welded in place of the stock muffler. Due to the offset inlet/outlet of the stock muffler, a short peice of pipe will need to be welded in as well. The muffler shop charged me $30 to weld in the new muffler. For another $30 they could've gone to the flange with 2" for a complete axle-back, but I really don't think there is any need for it unless your going to run 2" up to the resonator or manifold (for 2nd cat delete). I'm planning on putting on the corksport system or something similar (test-pipe back) later on, and really did this so I can hear what the car is doing. I'm not used to quiet cars, and I don't look at the tach very often.

silencer does add rasp. i had a 30dollar 4in tip universal muffler on my car for awhile. was pretty nice to be honest. wasnt s*** like the civics. i think mazda has the best sounding 4bangers overall.

I like the Mazda sound, but IMO nothing Japan has ever made can touch the sound of a 20v 4AG, except maybe an EJ20. There are some pretty amazing Euro fours too.

Ej20 sound great but only with uel's. Throw on an EL header and say goodbye to the boxer rumble. My last car was an sf forester with an ej20 from an '03 wrx
