all of you are reading his post wrong as far as emissions go. Someone stated something about how strict his emissions laws are. OP is saying all they do for emissions is plug into the obd port and check for codes. He's not saying the EMS plugs into the port. Also, if you want to retain emissions with a standalone, talk to Sam at Crossover Auto and order a Haltech Sprint 500 with the prewired harness. It is wired as a parallel setup. Stock ECU retains control of other stuff while the Haltech controls all tuning parameters and CEL still works. As a matter of fact, when I installed my Sprint 500, my CEL come on for crank and cam sensors. But it was due to the map I was starting with. When it comes to standalones, you don't NEED to wire everything up. You don't have to control every single part of the car. Parallel setup is the only way to pass emissions. If you want to DD a 340hp protege, by all means, do it. Several people here have done it. Some still are. The only issue after you find the right turbo to use will be trying to keep your transmission together. The stock gearset won't cut it and people have even shredded PAR straight cut gears. It is not impossible to drive a 300+hp protege. However, once you get into that range, you may want to look into getting a beater to drive around because in the end...it's a protege and something may break. When you start talking about making 300+, you are always going to get mixed comments on what to do. Im actually aiming for the same power, if not more. But before I do, I'll have another DD. I have another car already, but I share it with my wife. So, I'll be getting a second car specifically for when the msp is down.
