25k Miles CEL Today :(

My CEL came on today after less than a mile after elaving the gas station. I know a lot of you guys are gonna say go get it scanned can't help, I will get it scanned, but this just happened tonight. I just wanted to know if my mods could cause this to happen, I have a cobb sri and a forge bpv, nothing much which is why I'm surprised it came on. I had my oil changed less than 500 miles ago and I also had my power steering hose replaced at the dealer because it was bubbling. Do you guys think I should take these mods off before taking it to the dealer? They've have seen the mods and told me that only exhaust related stuff will void it, but I don't want them to blame the CEL on my small mods. I drove the car like I normally do and it seem the performance is still there, but it did seem to rev a lil bit more at idle. Any input will be appreciated.

I have never had CEL with those mods. It could be any number of things. If you get it scanned (other than dealership), let me know the code.
No matter what, take the mods off prior to taking it in. That swap out should take less than 30 minutes.

I recommend Brown's in Fairfax. Talk to Gary or Greg.

Yeah that's where I take my car. My car has not been touched by anyone other than me and the dealership, so I hope everything is ok :(

lol, Gary is the service manager. I was not satisfied with my other dealership experience's and bypassed the "team" and went straight for the coach. He called the right plays. Car is running like a top!!

But seriously, if you can get the code, I can give you the scoop from the Service Manual on it.

Thanks man, I'm going to an advanced around my house, that my friend got his scanned for free. So I'll let you know the code.

Can be a ton of things but to answer your question I dont think it has anything to do with ur mods. Only thing your mods may have caused is MAF issues but thats unlikely with the cobb sri.

If I were you I would take off the sri and bpv for sure. Shouldn't take you over 20 min to remove those. Better safe than sorry.

Well I went to advance auto today and I gave them my id and they let me use their scanner. So I hooked it up and the code was P2187, which also stated that the car was running to lean at idle speeds. I used the scanner to reset the code and when I got home I also took my negative out of my battery for 15 mins n let the car idle for 5 minutes. I drove about 35 miles today and the CEL hasn't came on yet. Anyone know why this code would come up could it be I got some bad gas, the code did come up after I filled up.....

Could be a weak fuel pump

There's a TSB for weak fuel pumps if your car falls within this range:

2007-2008 Mazdaspeed3 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1BK**** ** 859606 (produced before November 22,
2007)

Also, the fuel pump manufacture date needs to be before March 26, 2007.

Too bad you cleared the code - if you are in that range, you probably would have had an automatic ticket to an upgraded fuel pump. If you have mods, you'd be more likely to get this CEL if your fuel pump is weak.

Check for leaks in the intake system and put your stock bpv back on if you go to the dealer. Bad gas would not cause a lean at idle cel, but a leak after the maf would.

I have now put 200 miles on her and still no cel. If it comes back on I'll take everything off an go to the dealers. Thanks to everyone for the help!

Well I haven't been on much lately, so the CEL did go away, but then it came back on and went away again. Then 3 days ago it came back on and went away again. It seems it's going away when it's warmer down here and it comes back on when its balls cold. How would I go about checking for leaks in the intake?

Did you get the codes read? You don't need a CEL to have codes. Some codes are passive and don't trigger a CEL; the only way to find out is to scan.
