22" Wheels on a CX-9 (2nd gen 2021)

2021 CX-9 GT

Does the owner of this CX-9 on here? I am curious if 285/45R22 does really fit. I won't be lowering so might have a little more room at stock height but I don't see many fitting 285/45R22 on their CX-9. See a lot more 285/40R22 here. Mine is AWD GT. I was thinking of 22x10.5 +25, +30, +35 or 22x10 +30, +35. Many different wheels to choose from but I'd really want 285/45R22 just because there are so many different tire options at that size.

Unnecessarily wide, monstrously large wheels, skinny tires, looks "good" (subjectively) But does nothing good for you or the car. Why?

That's not what OP asked for. Please keep in mind that we're here to share info and learn about our cars. Unless that owner is asking for feedback, there's no need to question or criticize someone else's choices.

I run 285/35/22 tires on my 22x10.5 +30 rims. My sidewall is 3.9" thick. 285/45 tires would have sidewalls that are 5" thick. That extra thickness would be perfectly fine in the rear. Up front, you'd be coming very close to making contact with the spring perch. Here is a quick shot of my setup, showing the clearance between the inner rim/tire and the spring perch that I took.

It's hard to tell without actually measuring that distance, but just from eyeballing it, it looks like there's maybe 0.75" to 1" of clearance between the tire and the spring perch, to me. I'm not sure enough to say that it won't fit, but I don't know if I would risk it.

I see. I mean I saw many fitments that 285/40R22 was safe but I’m not too sure on 45. I’d think getting more aggressive offset like +25 would risk rubbing on fender and +35 or +40 would rub the strut/spring as seen there on the picture?

I mean it’s hard to really decide on the offset too. I can see I have options for +25, +30, +35 or +40. Or even 22x9, 22x9.5, 22x10 or 10.5. Trying to find the perfect setup

Have you tried this wheel comparison tool ? I find it very useful to find out the impact of wheel and tire difference. You can start with the original wheel set-up or use sm1ke set up as a baseline.

Measuring will get you certainty about the offset.

@sm1ke - are you running those on stock suspension? I just dropped my 2019 CX-9 on Corksport springs and am weighing whether I go for a fresh set of 20s or upsize to 22s. Looking at fitments, etc. to help make a call. Gonna turn my stock 20s into winters.

Currently my 2018 is on CorkSport springs with the OEM dampers. The picture posted in post #4 is with the 22s installed on OEM suspension, but the CorkSport springs only have a marginal effect on clearances due to the tiny bit of additional negative camber up front, making the tire sit a few millimeters closer than in the pic.

I think both 20s and 22s look good on a lowered CX-9. If you don't mind the slightly more jarring bumps, 22s are great, but tires will be more expensive I think. I turned my stock 20s into winters as well.
