21st-Century Muscle Cars

300 hp is a decent increase from last yrs but at 3500lbs it is lacking. Giving that the imports are hitting are gitting 300 out of there V6s and the 4bangers they sould have went with more power. 300hp is like the norm for hp now days, and thats why chevy is a 400!

But a 400 hp chevy is a vette which is in a different class than the stang. Add it up
$40,000-$50,000 vette 400hp

$30,000-$35,000 Stang Gt 300 hp
+Vortech SC $2400-$3500 7psi 450hp total for $35,000-$38,500

I would take the stang with less chance of theft and less insurance. Don't get me wrong the vette still handles better and looks better it should since it's a simiexotic, but if you compare hp for $ ford wins. except in the case of the FORD GT $160,000 way too expensive for what you get.

I generally don't like GM cars, the GTO is nice, It looks like a typical Austrailian car.

I'm looking at the differance between the Comeros and mustangs! Although now its the GTO, same compitition. I would take the ford over the GTO just because GM was stupid enough to try and have a foriner (?) try to build a muscle car. But the fords have always been behinde in the hp race. Thats all Im trying to say. And when the Cobra comes out that moves them up to the Vett and theyre still short. Over all good car!

LOL, the "new" GTO is a foriegn car. It was brought over from Austrailia. They have been making it for a few years. I would take the ford, because I hate GM's build quality. I remember all my friends camaros. What a bunch of POS's! Quick POS, but POS nontheless.

I would take my POS Camero over your P5 any day! I didn't have any problems with it until I messed up and raced it with a bad clutch, NEVER NEVER DO THAT! Whit a drag limit of 150 mph and I have witnesses it hit it quick and handled like a dream at that speed. KYBs do a lot for the car. I would have kept it but gas is just to high!

LOL at least I can shift without the friggin center console popping out. Every camaro I've driven, if you pull it back into first the whole console piece pops out! Oh, and optispark, LOL. Why don't we have a race, who can tune up thier car quicker? I'll use my sisters V10 F250 and you can use your camaro. Even with 2 more cylinders I'd get done about 2 hours before you.

Dude, my friends have 94 &96 Z28's, and 2 LS1 SS's, one being a 35 anny. The build quality is s***. I had the 35 anny to 130. Yes it's quick, insanely so, yes it handled great at that speed. But they all had more rattles and issues than my beat up 87 mustang!
Hell, the 94 Z28 had the doorskin fall off because the GLUE stopped holding it together!

Oh, and last time I checked it's spelled CAMARO, not CAMERO.

But,all in all I wouldnt mind having a camaro, just not as my only car. I used to trade my 87 Crown vic for a 96 Z28 every weekend. My buddy needed a decent car to bracket race with and the camaro couldn't cut it. I couldn't stand more than 2 days driving the camaro.

Hmmm. The GTO's interior is on par with BMW. Believe me, my uncle owns a 04 GTO, 01 M5, and a 02 BMW 540i Sport. The GTO interior is just as nice as his BMWs. I've been in a 05 Stang, and I'm not feeling the Retro thing and the interior does feel cheap.

Yes the build quality in the F-bodies were pretty bad, but the GTO aka Monaro has only been on the market for 4 to 5 years now.

I have to admit I haven't really looked at the GTO or the new stang. That'd be nice if GM actually built the car nice! I did see a couple running at a dragstrip in GA. Pretty darn quick.

Hughes, don't take the stuff personally. Oh, and my 5 is a POS, in fact all cars are!

I think the Mustang looks far better. The GTO's spec's are great but it looks like a plain old $14000 Pontiac and I can't tell it's a goat. I'd have to sit in them and test drive though. But I'd have to spend $$ to make the GTO distinctive where as I would leave the Mustang alone.

It's all good (rockon) . Every one has there opinions, and its ok that yours is a bad one LOL. I only had the car for a yr and a half but I have to say I drove the dog piss out of it had I didn't have any problems with it. Best 9k I very spent. Maybe it was because the first owner took very good care of it. 97 bought in 02 with 36k miles on it.

The one other reason I say Mustang is it was made (mostly) in the USA! SO they say!

But look at the weight of the Japanese stuff anyway... Evo's and STi's are almost the same weight as my 3250 lb '04 Mustang GT... as pointed out before, the Vette is at least 10 grand more for the extra 100 hp. Not gonna say the Vette isn't a great car, nor the Evo or the STI... but let's look at the big picture and realize that it isn't that cut and dry.

And who the hell is paying 30K for a new Mustang GT?? If you are, come talk to me, I'll sell you as many as you want for 30K, and make a sweet profit...

All I have to say is that for 100hp and 10,000 you get .3 quicker to 60, .5 quicker in the quarter, .01 less roadholding, lower gas mileage in the city, and a sloppy transmission.......hmmmmmm tough choice, give me the stang anyday. I'll get more than 100hp out of it with some simple upgrades and more than make up that difference. Plus when you see one of these on 19" SSR Comp wheels, damn it looks nice.

HA you ford lovers crack me up. Drive a GTO and youll be sold, sure its that much faster but the handling and everything its so much better dollar for dollar. Yea the stang looks pretty but it still has all the annoying quirks a mustang alsways hand.

Those hood scoops btw are functional, oh and its still made by holden.

The GT handles better.......look at the stats, not a huge difference, but a little better. Also the shifter in the mustang in much smoother than that in the GTO. I almost traded my car in on the GTO, but wanted to wait for the Mustang, now that the Mustang is out, I'm going to pay off my car and save my money for the Cobra if it ever comes out. I heard the other day that Ford was going to shut-down the SVT division, which I think would be stupid. I have not validated this yet, but will look into it

The SVT shutdown will not be permanant. When it reopens it will be under a diff name. SVT was SVO in the 80's and early 90's. Also Ford doesn't plan on having another Mustang Cobra. Instead they plan on spliting the line. It will be a Ford Cobra made on a diff platform than the stang. Ford is planing to go after the Vette with a semiexotic. The car is said to have a V-10 Dohc 500 hp aluminum block and head with a 50/50 weight distribution.
