21lbs plus meth?

hey guys ive just considered a new cheaper build... what would u guys think of one of those electronic boost gauges that you can controll the boost with? i was thinkin intake, test pipe, 21 lbs+water meth this asking to go boom?
 
get the turbo rebuilt by PG, and some sort of legitimate tuning solution, then you'll really be in business.

You're going to have alot of problems and deficiency's if you set the stock k04 turbo to 21psi with an mbc...not to mention spend alot more money on fixing the problems that will come with your ideal...

Do it right, spend alittle bit more $$$ and get a cp-e or turboxs turboback, F2 fmic and meth injection + upgraded fuel pump internals = FTW.

the current plan is sort of like putting your house speakers in the bck of your car and calling it a system

You don't want to constantly run 20lbs of boost on our stock k04 turbo, it'll lose efficiency after 19psi and spew hot air afterwards, it can spike up to 20psi no problem, but it's definitely not wise to leave it at 20psi on a daily basis...keep in mind, our stock boost is 15.6, i've heard of people running 18psi just fine, but you'll wear our the turbo shortly, 20-22psi will kill it if not, make less power than 18psi.

thats not true at all, remember meth lowers the inlet temperatures considerably, 20 psi will be fine, darksun hit 319 with few mods and meth and 22 psi or something like that

Meth saves your engine, not your turbo. Pushing the turbo at 20PSI constant is out of its efficiency range. You will shorten your turbo live drastically by doing so.

But until such time as your turbo goes out, you will produce more power.
 
if the K04 is rebuilt (by PG or PT-P), it can handle 20psi easily with meth for a long time. meth lowers EGT's too...
 
a few questions:

i'm familiar with the benefits of methanol and/or water injection in turbos... and water injection on chevrolet V8s that i've owned... i always liked how it worked.. free horsepower, when you think of it.. i like the way it kept the plugs cleaned off... and it seemed to run cooler.

how does methanol work in our cars, with stock components? (except for my k&n)...

is it worth the hassle?.. are there any negative reactions from the computer? do you see any hp gains? where is the optimal place to inject the mist?

i'm assuming you would still run it before the throttle.. and does the direct injection style of our engines hamper the effects of the water mixing it up with the gas, like it usually does?

i think the 50/50 water/methanol mix would work well on these cars...please correct me if i'm wrong on any of this.... is there something i'm missing? knowing how turbos love the water, i'm surprised i haven't heard of many doing it on these cars... maybe it goes by some new acronym or code word...

uhm not gonna really give any horse power the methanol is basically just kind of like a protectant... it makes it so the combustion in the engine is cooled down helps prevent knock/glow plugs if running a high amount of a boost

granted running anything higher than stock will technically shorten the life of your turbo, but thats a sacrifice when modding, you will gain power as even if the turbo is blowing hotter air the iat wont go up because the meth will lower the temps
 
my understanding is that meth will lower all temps, so it won't save the life of the turbo, but it will ensure that 20 psi ain't gonna be only hot air
