21 over!

Heading home from a mountain bike trip with the girlfriend I was doing 91 in a 70 mph zone. As I came over the top of a hill, ( i should have anticipated this), there was a cop sitting at the bottom. Before I slowed down I knew he had me. He pulled me over and took my information. Mind you a violation of 21 over is 5 points and a $200 fine. He comes back to my car and say's "I'm going to let you off with a warning." Holllllly s***. I was really happy/lucky yesterday. Now I'm driving more like a grandma.

I have a similar story. It was the night before my wedding this past july. We just finished our last rehearsal and me and my buddie were gonna go out to the race spots out here in minneapolis. he took off to drop off his car at his house before i was able to get out the door. i caught up to him on the highway and we slowed down to the speed limit and got pulled over.

after a stern yelling another cop pulled behind us. the cops started talking to eachother and the second cop says " I was sitting at the light and the silver car (mustang) just took off i clocked him at 90mph, but the black car (ms3) took off like a bat out of hell!" he made accelleration noises with his mouth and gestures with his hands! he finished with..." I clocked the the black one at 126mph!" might i remind you we were in a 55mph zone, thats 71 mph over!!!! all i did was catch up to my buddie! so the first cop when back to his car checked our records he went and talk to my friend first and told him to leave.

He came to me and asked me what my last name was? i told him and he says "THATS NOT THE NAME OF THIS ROAD!" He lets me know that if i want to keep my record clean i need to stop doing s*** like that and he told me to leave. So i drove off and called by buddie and both of us had to just laugh it off. i wasn't gonna dwell on it and ruin my last night of freedom. we dropped off his car and had a good night of freewayracing and hanging out in the race spots!

just so you know what i did was pretty stupid, i dont condone what i did but the freeway was clear and i trust me and my friends driving!

I love how in at least three separate threads that I've read today people have talked about street racing and always justified it by saying:

"I don't condone what I did BUT the freeway was clear and I trust my driving!"

What horse s***. You obviously do condone what you did, a clear freeway doesn't justify anything whatsoever, and trust is frequently misplaced at 125 mph.

yeah I dont condone U doing it b/c I dont trust you. im confident in my driving controll. if you have a problem with street racing then stay home and write angry blogs about it.

well i dont condone you doing it cuz i dont trust you....

what a lame argument, street racing is illegal. period. dont do it and more importantly, dont talk about it on the forums.

People who actually know something about racing and vehicle control know to keep it off the streets.

People who actually know something about the forum rules know to keep their stupid macho street racing talk off the forums.

You are apparently neither.

It's ironic that he is getting bashed for "racing" since EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE on here speeds from time to time.....sometimes, every single day. Nobody here is innocent but I guess that still doesn't mean that people don't have a high horse anyways. Let's cheer up, it's Friday :)

There's a difference between doing 75 in a 65 and doing 126 in a 55 to catch up with a buddy, and then going off and having "a good night of freewayracing".

agreed - all of us are guilty of speeding from time to time (some more so than others). That does not make you a hippocrit for thinking street racing is dumb and unsafe. If a cop catches you doing "runs on an empty freeway" he will definitely give you a speeding ticket, most likely reckless, and for those in california they will impound and crush your car. This is no joke, its illegal on the streets, and not to be discussed on the forum, so really just dont do it and we'll all be ok!

Good points guys. I am just saying that when you speed on a daily basis, you are actually racing.....everyone. Going 126mph anywhere but the track is wreckless and as Jbird stated, not allowed to be mentioned on this forum.

Jbird, I am not trying to pick a fight or start an argument with you but at what point does a person become hypocritical then? I mean, if I cruise on the highway ten miles over the speed limit everyday and then I hear about somebody doing 20 miles over the speed limit, does that mean I have any right to b**** at him for doing so because it's just THAT much more illegal or dangerous? I am just throwing out that idea but nobody could ever argue for going over 100mph on a public road.

IMO there is a fundamental difference between speeding and street racing. When you are racing your focus is not on the things around you or other cars on the road, you are focused on beating the guy next to you. (reckless or agressive driving)

If you are simply driving over the speed limit, hopefully you will still have the defensive mindset and paying attention to your surroundings. Now going 120+ trying to catch up to your buddy, to me, that is street racing. You have lost complete focus on driving safely, your only goal is to drive as fast as you can til you catch ur friend.

Personally, I think I could easily drive 100 mph on most highways and be safe about it. But with other cars on the road, that is an added level of uncertainty that no amount of driving skill can avoid. As my dad used to say to me, "I'm not worried about how you drive, its the other idiots out there on the road, so be careful"

Nice. A cop let me off for doing 59 in a 30. Most people do 45 there anyways, and I have no excuse. Told him straight up there was no traffic so I wanted to get on the gas a little bit. It was a nice summer day.

He told me I didn't need a ticket like that on my insurance and to slow up a bit, and let me go. Nicest cop I ever met, not because of the fact he let me go, but was actually rational and understood the situation. I believe cops rather just here the truth, so I never try to get out of tickets or lie. Maybe that's why I've never got one out of the few times I've been pulled over.

And it is true, we all speed now and then, some more than others. Nobody can say they never have.
