2024 CX-5 Turbo Air Filter Box Test - Yikes

I think that's it. I also noticed youri mentioned them above; my bad. Here is his prior post on it:

It seems like the CX5 draws air up the the grill via a port in the area where the hood latch is. I made sure that area is as open as possible.
On my 2018 I removed the plastic restrictive grill by the hood latch for more air flow. Also use AEM DryFlow filter. I am considering trimming the snorkel tube where it enters the airbox as it appears to be longer than necessary and adding a small bit of restriction. Has anybody done this yet?

If you shorten, please post pics. Do you have a method to test like a 0 to 60 time from a pbone app?

My other posts for the active grille shutter are for the CX-9. On the CX-9 they are on the top portion of the grill in front of the radiator, not the bottom. The bottom opening in the CX-9 is where the intercooler is (which i don’t think you would want to restrict airflow to).

On the CX-5 i am not sure how the intercooler and air flow is set up, but it does looks like the shutters are on the bottom opening. It’s operation could be totally different than on the CX-9.

The turbo cx5 doesnt have shutters. They are only in the NA models. Turbo - Its all open at the front. The intercooler is at the bottom same as in the cx9.

Hah! That's interesting. My turbo CX-50 has active shutters.

I was under my 24, turbo, CX 5 yesterday, removed the belly pan to grease the urethane sway bar bushings. I didnt get enough grease on them during the install. No more squeaks!

While removing the pan I looked at the bottom grill opening. I didnt see shutters. I noted that the cooler already had some dings in it from stones...

Looks like Mazda can't make up their mind, shutters, no shutters.

I'm all in not having one more mechanical device.

Without easily monitoring vital temps, I'm hesitant to restrict the grill. One could log temps using Mazda Edit or other software.

For now, I'm enjoying the simple mods and engine tune.

Rev 1.0, changed to a 2.5" to 4" 90 degree reducer wit 4" back flow damper. It still a tight fit.

Initial test drive, lowend torque didn't change. Delta P guage showed pressure drop at WOT.

I'll get a log latter today and compare to logs without this device.

I found several spec sheet for the backdraft dampers that say they begin to open a 0.04 to 0.08 in wc. Or just when the filter box goes negative it begins to open.

This sounds about ideal. Until the filter box has not gone negative it stays closed. It opens based on engine load.
