2022 Mazda3 cylinder head crack at 62,000 miles

Well the Mazda known faulty cracked cylinder head issue continues! Beware!

My meticulously maintained 2022 Mazda3 2.5 started dumping oil at 62000 miles and yes 2000 miles out of warranty it needs the head replaced. I’ve contacted Mazda for a goodwill repair because the dealer quoted over $4000 to fix it. We will see if they stand by the faulty product design.

I will update today when I hear back from them. It’s just terrible to still be paying on a 3 year old car and have this kind of major top end engine failure.

No to either. Just a 2.5 sedan. My wife has a 2019 Mazda3 premium and now I’m in fear it will happen to it as well. I hope Mazda will stand by the product because it’s an issue they’ve known about for a few years now. I also hope the replacement cylinder head is an upgrade and not a replacement with the same fault.

Not that I’m aware of no oil lose between changes it just cracked above the exhaust manifold never over heated always ran good just know faulty engineering.

Same issue with mine. 66k and no help from Mazda. $7000 to fix it. I expected more than 66k on an engine. Horrible customer service to add to the frustration. On NHSTA'a website there are almost 100 formal complaints. If you have this issue, fill out the form. It's quick and will help all of us with these lemons. I'm also joining a class action suit against Mazda. They've already lost the Turbo suit. Hopefully all of us can get some assistance.

I won’t buy another Mazda for sure. I should have never left Toyota for a couple grand savings just to pay it in maintenance, weeks without a car and paying for a rental. Dealing with people who don’t stand behind their product.

Did Mazda ever give you any help with the repair cost on this ? Or did you just have to eat it yourself?

2,000 miles out of warranty. Doh !!

These cars are known to hit 400,000 miles on the original drivetrain with pretty much nothing but routine maintenance. There are very little catastrophic examples such as this.

I'm curious what exactly caused the crack head then. I've heard of it happening when driving in -25c weather.

Nearly 350k km on mine, recently drove in -28c weather with no issues. I wonder how the car can continue to just drive like this endlessly with no major issues at all.

Sorry to hear that this happened to you.

It's only happening on the cars with cylinder deactivation.
