tl;dr - car went into limp mode while merging on the highway, multiple error messages came (mostly w/ the radar sensor). pulled over and turned off the car. after restarting, everything seems to be back to normal.

Tried searching the forum and didn't see anyone w/ a similar situation. As the title states, I was merging onto the highway and noticed the car not accerlating. Stepped on the gas again and same thing. I looked down on the dash and saw multiple lights and "malfunction" messages. The car was in limp mode as I was not able to go above 40mph (estimate). I should have taken a video or picture, but my first thought was to pull over safely. From my memory, I believe most of the messages was related to the radar function: "Smart City Braking", "Radar Cruise"... etc.

I pulled over immediately and turned the car off. After about 3 minutes, I turned the car back on and everything appears to be working. For the past three days, I have not been able to replicate the issue and I attempted to scan for a fault code but the OBD2 reader shows no fault code in memory.

I looked in the engine bay and did not see any chewed wires, but then again, not completely sure what to look for. I know if I take this into the dealer and they cannot replicate the issue, it will be waste of time. Hoping someone on the forum may have experienced this before and may know the issue / cause. Thanks in advance.

An OBD reader will now show 'module' errors, if any did occur. You need a scanner that speaks to each module and retrieves the manufacturer codes. There are Launch scanners on Amazon that perform this function and if you plan on keeping the car for some time and are somewhat DIY it may be worth the investment.

The radar can act up on cold, cloudy and other unusual weather condition days. When we had our 2018 cx-5 it happened one day when it was a couple years old. Dealer service manager said he has seen certain weather conditions cause temporary radar issues.

Happened to my 2016 once. I was also getting on the freeway and it went into limp mode. Turned off and turned on and self fixed. Everything been fine so far. Knock on wood.

Thank you all for the replies. I did not know the difference between a OBD2 scanner and a module scanner. I will definitely look into this or at the minimum, perhaps pay a visit to the dealer to see if they can take a look.

Best case scenario is that it was just so cold out that it caused the radar sensor to "lock up".... like you said, knock on wood, hope it doesn't happen again while I am on the highway. Thanks yall.

Your coolant light flashing red? Not sure if your year has a coolant gauge or light.

Had this happen about 3 years back. Car lost power while getting on highway. Pulled over and 'rebooted' car. Has not happened again since. Kind of scetchy.

I have had this same thing happen when coming off a highway. I posted about here somewhere. Turned off/on and everything was fine.

Funny thing is, there was no OBD info saved. I did get multiple errors, and duplicates. They were saved in the infotainment area (and phone app), but no codes saved to ECU. (dealership tried to make me pay for diagnostic because no codes until i showed them the 10+ errors the app history.)
