2016 CX-5 Sport uneven AC cooling from vents

Update: I took my 16 CX-5 to my mechanic. He determined that was a leak in one of the low pressure or high pressure valves. Replaced them and also refilled the freon and added a dye just in case. The AC is now very cold and works well.

Great. Glad you got it corrected.

Interesting, though, to see a valve issue on one of the lines so clearly impacting temps out certain vents but not others. I guess it's related to how much force (or "oomph") that flow imparts on the air flow. I wouldn't have bet on that. But, it was.

He mentioned that he was hearing a hissing sound on one of the valves when he was looking at it to determine the issue.

valves have rubber stems that harden with age and start to leak or sometimes its the spring in the valve that does not retract fully when pressed. this is the cheapest fix :)

The valves dont impact the temps, the low refrigerant is the cause. Valves just leak
refrigerant over time. The system works at best when the right quantity of refrigeranr is present. Low and you get weird issues. High is not good too. Thus why there is a sticker that says exactly how much refrigerant each car system needs.

I had a recharge late last year. Replaced the valves along the lines, and did a discharge/recharge. A/C temps that were merely tepid were the problem, in my case, which the fix resolved. It's probably something I should have had done at the ~80-90Kmi mark. In my case, it was north of 125Kmi. But, live and learn.

Haven't had the o-rings on the lines redone, though being o-rings there will be aging over time. And some have reported the block joint (against the firewall) sometimes has issues. At least the o-rings, possibly the block joint, will be items I deal with the next time around when a recharge+valves get done.

Might be controversial, but I run the HVAC system in all my cars with the A/C (compressor) on year round; this includes when I'm running heat. I forgot where I got that tip. But the logic is the refrigerant with lubricant is circulated constantly. Since lubricant is constantly circulated in the system, it maintains all the O-rings and seals. Since doing this, I've never had to recharge the A/C system in any of my cars.

The only variable is possible increased wear on the compressor. But I have yet to need to have one replaced.
