Hello All,

New owner of 2016 CX-5 (great so far) and also a Keyfit 30 baby seat. I was hoping to put the car seat in the middle of the backseat between the passenger and driver side but am having difficulties getting it to fit tightly. I've followed the instruction manual and also looked at youtube on ways to tighten the seat (using your foot to push seat to back of car and tightening latch) but I feel like it's getting more travel/movement than it should. Also it looks like the latches have to reach farther to get the ends of the passenger and driver side latch hooks, and they don't tighten as well.

When I put the baby seat directly behind the driver or passenger side it's definitely much more secure with less movement. I looked at pictures online and it appears that others have gotten it to fit in the middle. Any ideas or tips? I'l likely take it to a local police/fire station for them to do their car seat blessing but wanted to check on the forum first.

If you have one child, put the car seat behind the front passenger (shotgun) seat. That way, when you are in the drivers seat you have good visibility of the baby.

It sounds like you're using latch in the middle? The Keyfit 30 manual states that you should only use latch with the standard spacing of 11 inches. The spacing between the anchors when you use the middle is 16.5 inches so you should use the seat belt to secure the base if you want to use the middle. (That's what we do with our carseat).

The non standard spacing is probably why you're unable to get it as tight as it should be.
