2014 Mazda3 Hatch or Sedan?

:
2017 CX-5 GT w/ Premium Pkg.
I am really torn between getting the sedan and hatch. I've been going back and forth forever. When I first saw the sGT hatch in person I really liked how it looks, it looked way better than in pictures. Then yesterday I was about to go purchase it and then I saw the sGT sedan in person and fell in love with it. My friend went with me (he helps me negotiate lol) and kept telling me to get the hatch because it looks sportier especially with the dual exhaust pipes showing whereas the sedan they're hidden behind the bumper. He thinks the hatch looks nicer even though he never likes hatches.

Having owned a hatchback (pontiac vibe) it's kind of hard going back to a sedan, even if it looks nicer. I still like the rear end of the sedan a bit more and I was super set on getting it but then I kind of hate the small trunk opening in the sedan, even though it has a larger trunk space than the hatch. I feel if I get the sedan I might regret it when I need to move large stuffs lol

What are your thoughts?

Either one will be a good choice, I guess it comes down to what you think will work better for you. The sedan would save you $500.

If you have any thought of ever carrying something bulky, get the hatch. You'll never look at your hatch and go "oh I wish I had gotten the smaller cargo compartment."

It sounds like you're already leaning towards the hatch. Go with it. I get the sense you may regret getting the sedan later on.

Yeah I am leaning more towards the hatch. We negotiated the sGT sedan down to $26,000 yesterday, hopefully I can get the hatch for the same price or no more than $26,400. I'll have some time to decide as I work on selling my current car first =/

Oh how I wish I can have both cars lol

If they're willing to accept $26k for a sedan they should accept $26,400 for the hatch. Especially if you hit them at the end of the month.

Yeah I'll try end of the month if I'm have the patience lol Going to Vegas this coming weekend so I'll start searching again next week :D

I'll be trading in my mk5 GTI DSG for something a little more frugal and reliable. The 2014 Mazda 3 is at the top of list, although I did find the 2.0L quite lacking in power. It felt more like 130 than 155hp. I'll be going hatch, no doubt, but it's a $1000 option, and my ultimate goal is to save money. Ouch.

Another vote for the hatch (which I just chose myself). I also kind of like the looks of the sedan better (I think), but the hatch is so much more practical. I'm a bicyclist, and I like being able to take the front wheel off of my bike and stuff it in the hatch. I haven't done this yet with my new 3, but it just barely fit in my 2012 Focus. I'm hoping it will in the 3, too. I also just love hatchbacks.

Yea well I ended up getting the hatch last week. Seeing both the sedan and hatch parked next to each other, I was able to better compare the two. Sedan looks nice but at certain angles it looks a bit odd and you can't really tell there's a trunk. The hatch does look a lot better in person than in pictures and I prefer the more sporty look of the hatch. Plus it's more practical as the sedan trunk opening is very small.

I think that the functionality of the hatch trumps everything else, but it is worth mentioning that in addition to lower MSRP, the sedan gets somewhat better EPA mileage. However, I have struggled with carrying stuff in a Civic sedan since 2008 and can't wait to have a hatchback again.

you could wait for the 2dr sedan hatchback to come out in 2015. like a mini mazda6 hatchback.
