2013 CX-9 AWD to FWD due to chewed up splines

2013 Mazda CX-9 AWD
So I was having hearing a noise and the car woluld vigously jolt for a for while in a high gear (5-6) and very low rpms while driving. Decided to drop the transfer case and I found the male splines (transfer case) and female splines (transmission) were tore up.

So I have a theory, is it possible to purchase the FWD half shaft (intermediate shaft) and just convert to FWD?
There is 2 set of female splines on transmission side, and I think the smaller undamaged splines is where a longer (FWD) intermediate shaft would splines into to bypass the PTU (transfer case).

And on the FWD intermediate shaft there is 3 bolt flange and I'm assuming it would bolt exactly to where the support bracket for the PTU (transfer case) is bolt to. (Side of the engine block)

Correct me if I'm wrong, this is pure speculation any help is needed, thanks!

Something similar to what you are explaining is a solution and a lot of people have done it. The AWD chewing spline is a common issue I believe on the first gen CX-9. Do a search on this forum and I am sure you will find someone that has done the work and detailed it already.

Sm1ke has a gen 2 CX-9 and his issues would likely not be the same. Check the forum. AWD to FWD is a well known fix.

I do recall folks just removing the driveshaft to the rear differential and calling it a day. Some have removed the PTU, but if it's not making noise why bother.
