2013 CX-5 Sport Nav AFS replacement - options?!

Hello all. I’m new to the CX5 and got myself a 2013 Sport Nav, lovely car!

The passenger side (RHD UK model) headlight is damaged and needs replaced. I’ve already made the mistake of buying a standard Halogen unit… and now looking for a Xenon AFS type.

It’s really hard to find a replacement!

What are my options? Can I swap the whole system. Out for aftermarket or even standard units?

Or, should I be patient and wait for a used AFS unit to become available?

Thanks!

I know you are in UK…but have you tried looking through the US used parts network?

That being said… I don’t know operationally if a LHD unit will just plug and play for a RHD vehicle.
There’s a few units on EBay from the States which I’ve looked at but they look different first and foremost because of the orange indicator. Aside from that, not sure if it is plug and play when putting a LHD unit on a RHD?

look in ebay uk or you could also ask in the uk mazda forum.
Most likely any LHD car beam pattern would be different than RHD and you may have trouble with MOT

I believe you should be able to get the OEM RHD 2013 CX-5 AFS xenon headlight from a Mazda dealer in UK. The price would be high but that’d be the correct headlight for your car. Alternatively you may try your luck at the salvage yard or eBay locally. The other way you can try is to find the same RHD headlight from these online sellers from Japan such as JapanParts.com and Impex.com. But the price plus shipping will be high too. Use the part number on your damaged headlight to verify the correct headlight for your CX-5.

The US version headlights on gen-1 CX-5 will have the build-in amber side-marker / reflector which is the US DOT mandate. But the main reason you shouldn’t try to get the headlight for US or EU LHD CX-5 is the beam pattern. If you use the LHD headlights the light wil shine directly into driver’s eyes from opposite direction. They won’t pass any government annual inspection if you have one.

You may try to use a pair of aftermarket halogen or xenon headlights without AFS which will be much cheaper. But you may see the AFS malfunction warning light in your dash.

The beam pattern of LHD vehicles is different (opposite) than RHD vehicles. They aren’t interchangeable between the two, even legally.

That's a good point.

I know on my wife's old CX9, the light cutoff stepped down from right to left (US) as to reduce blinding oncoming traffic on the left side of the car.

UK being on the (wrong) other side of the road would need the opposite.

Thanks for the reply all. Based on this and my own research, conclusion is they’re not interchangeable.

I’ll just need to keep hunting the UK classifieds until something comes up, really don’t want to have to fork out at the dealer!

You could also try Japan market. You'd have to pay shipping, but it might still be cheaper.

Any chance you have an auto junkyard nearby? It might be worth seeing if they have any wrecked CX-5s with the right lights that you could pull from.

I’ve tried a couple but it seems everything is online nowadays. Unless anyone knows of a good Mazda breaking specialists in UK that I could call?

Just reading through the thread again and we don’t seem to have answered if it’s possible just to replace both headlights to the standard halogen units and delete the AFS?
