Mazda 5 Sport Nav
Hey folks,

Lurked a little on here while choosing what car to buy, just got the Sport Nav 5 - lovely thing, if a little light in the steering, but I'll get used to it. Anyway, my question is simply just to check whether it's correct that the UK Sport Nav doesn't come with power folding wing mirrors. I'm amazed that something at the the top of the range doesn't have them, and just wanted to check it wasn't an error in the build. I can't see any mention of it in the manual, so I assume it's just one of those weired anomalies, but hey, best to ask!

Cheers,
John

hey John -
At least here in the US I believe power-folding mirrors are only featured on at least "near luxury" cars i.e. >$30k. Never considered them useful, but now that I think about it it wouldn't hurt to have the extra space in the garage...
Also, "Sport" models over here are the low-spec ones, SATNAV isn't even available.

I'm quite happy with the steering on mine. Sure it's lighter than our old BMW but seems to have decent enough feel for a mini van.

cheers
Kurt

Nur -- have you checked out Crutchfield lately? Now there are number of factory-like NAVIs available which I'd say performs better than factory version that was available for the MZ5. Besides, if you ask anyone, including myself, factory NAVI from Mazda is terrible. Whenever we take my wife's CX9, we wind up using the suction cup mounted Garmin Nuvi.

Looking into a head unit swap for my 2012 Sport, I found some info that showed the optional UK Nav stereo is actually a Pioneer double-din unit running TomTom software. So it's actually pretty nice. You can buy on Crutchfield for about $700. Part number is AVIC-X940BT.

I don't think this unit is the one we have in the UK. It is actually a pure TomTom unit - if it is made by Pioneer it isn't the X940BT.

Apparently the Euro/UK unit is joint thing between TomTom and Sanyo, with TomTom branding...

Sounds reasonable. I just remember looking for the UK bezel for a double din radio and saw the Mazda UK literature showed some Pioneer units as optional. May just be a dealer installed option. Either way, I ordered the Connects2 bezel for mine and installed a Kenwood unit.
