Found this on TCL, hope its not a repost. New 3 to have start stop technology, Mazda is also developing a DSG twin clutch trans for the 3 as well.

"The new Mazda 3 will be fitted with stop-start technology by the end of this year, a senior source within the company has told Autocar.

Read our first drive of the new Mazda 3

The Mazda 3’s stop-start system will be available on the 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre petrol models only; the diesel-engined Mazda 3 variants won’t initially get the technology, while the petrol 1.4 from the current car has been dropped from the range.

Mazda is also developing its own DSG-style twin-clutch gearbox for the new Mazda 3, although this won’t be production-ready until 2010.

In the more immediate future, a hot MPS version of the Mazda 3 will be launched at the Geneva show in March. Expect a more radically styled model than the current car, with a more aggressive bodykit."

I think the response would've been better had it been a piece of good news. Start / stop mechanisms sounds hard on the components to me..no thanks.

The auto stop/start features are a great way to boost mileage and reduce emission. It really does not cause allot of wear and tear as folks suspect, the auto systems restarting a totally warm engine does not stress many components more than idling does.

My concern, with most cars they have to have systems to keep the AC and electirc systems running. Adding a simple start/stop may not do the AC. I know in 98 F degree DC days, I would not accept that.

From what I've read, you can disable the start stop system for instances like 98 deg days. The Beauty of the Mazda system is that it doesn't really require must modification to the engine, so i'm sure electrical systems will just run off the battery while the engine is stopped. But AC will not function.
