2009 Official Formula 1 thread

Any predictions on this weekend's race?

I'll predict another Brawn as the winner, tough I'm not shure which one. Rosberg will be third while Kubica will be fourth.

Ferrari will be more on the pace, but will suffer another reliability problem.

wait, it started already... err. what NOTABLE rule changes are in place this year? I know last year they got rid of Traction control

You've missed a bit of action! S.A.MSP said it best, but basically

COMPLETELY different aero design (I still can't get used to the cars)

Slicks

Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems

For 2010 there's going to be budget caps (apparently) and no refueling allowed.

Poop! How was I not on this sooner!?!?

Anyone make their fantasy teams for this season?

BTW, I want to say I am jumping on the BrawnGP bandwagon now (actually I did it last Sunday), though I have been a Button fan for a while (ever since he was on Top Gear).

Good first race IMO

i've always liked Ferrari so i'll continue to like them... More of a Massa fan though

I wasn't too fond of Massa until last season, he had a great year and even tough he lost the championship, he gave Lewis one hell of a fight, and showed how a professional sportsman is expected to behave in defeat. His attitude won him a lot of fans. I'd like him to do well in the future. Hamilton's attitude on the other hand, makes me not really like him, even if he has bucket loads of talent.

I've been a Kimi fan since his days at Mclaren, but he needs to show that crushing form he showed in 05 and 07, otherwise he'll be out of a job rather soon, if you believe all the press that Santander will be at Ferrari next year and will probably want a certain, very talented, Spaniard driving there.

Regarding Button, I've also been a fan of him for quite some time, and I'm really happy he finally has a car in which he can fight for the championship, now the pressure is on him to not become another Fisichella (highly regarded by his peers, but ultimately, not too effective in a championship battle). Button's smooth driving style is the way I'd like to drive (and try to emulate).

even when Micheal was still racing i thought massa had a TON of talent, but was always playing by Ferrari's rules.. OK hold up this guy, but 15 laps later, ok now put as MUCh space between this guy and that guy but don't pass Micheal.. he had a TUFF job, still does, but i think they let him race more than when Micheal was still there

Hamilton excluded from Australian results, Trulli regains third

McLarens Lewis Hamilton has been disqualified from last weekends Australian Grand Prix after a second stewards investigation on Thursday decided both he and his team had provided misleading' evidence during a hearing held after the Melbourne race.

Hamilton crossed the finish line in Australia in fourth, but was subsequently promoted to third after Toyotas Jarno Trulli was handed a 25-second time penalty for passing his McLaren under the safety car during the races closing laps.

Stewards, however, decided to reinvestigate the incident after fresh evidence came to light and convened a second meeting in Sepang. After the hearing, the stewards issued the following statement:

The Stewards having considered the new elements presented to them from the 2009 Australian Formula One Grand Prix, consider that driver No 1 Lewis Hamilton and the competitor Vodafone McLaren Mercedes acted in a manner prejudicial to the conduct of the event by providing evidence deliberately misleading to the Stewards at the hearing on Sunday 29th March 2009, a breach of Article 151c of the International Sporting Code.

"Under Article 158 of the International Sporting Code, the driver No 1 Lewis Hamilton and the competitor Vodafone McLaren Mercedes are excluded from the race classification for the 2009 Australian Grand Prix and the classification is amended accordingly."

In addition to Hamiltons disqualification, Trullis penalty has been withdrawn and the Italian therefore regains his third place - and six world championship points.

In accepting the stewards' decision, McLaren issued the following press release, stating they have no plans to appeal:

"The FIA Stewards have reviewed their decision of Sunday 29th March 2009, and have excluded Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton from the results of the 2009 Australian Grand Prix.

"Vodafone McLaren Mercedes understands that the Stewards made their decision on the basis of reviewing radio transmissions between the driver and the Team.

"The Team mistakenly believed that the radio transmissions had been reviewed by the FIA on Sunday 29th March 2009, and consequently did not believe it was necessary to discuss them with the Stewards on that date.

"Nonetheless, the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Team now regrets that it did not do so, accepts the Stewards' decision and will not appeal."

Yeah I saw that too... scandal scandal!!

See I thought I read in a previous report that Hamilton had been talking to his engineers and moved over to let Trulli pass. I thought it was a quote from Hamilton himself. This after-race bulls*** gets annoying to be honest...

The positions after qualifying are very intersting!!

Button and Trulli ran very very close! But I think Button has a fair chance of winning; he has a good fuel load, and if he can make a start like the one in the Aussie GP he might run away into the distance again. Anyways if it's interesting enough I won't really be upset if x or y driver wins.

I'm suprised/concerned for Ferrari...

For shure Massa has always displayed talent, I mean he put a Sauber 4th on the grid in one ocassion (at Interlagos 2005 I think..). But I accepted the idea that he was sometimes a bit too wild.

And even tough he had to be a "team player" for Schumi, I think being his proteg did wonders for him.

Well, when the FIA schedules a race in the rainy season...what can you really expect? From what I know, Malaysia is basically guaranteed a rain storm in the late afternoon/early evening everyday

But, that was definitely an interesting finish...
