2008 Vs 2009 Vs 2010

There are armrests for driver and front passenger on the console side, and armrests for both sides of both seats in the second row. There is also a vent in the console for the second row but its AC only(I'm not sure its full AC temp though, just cooler then ambient, I dont sit there much and it never seems that cold), heat comes out under the front seats only for second row. I have also heard the AC system is a higher capacity in general. This info is for 08+ models.

I just think the A/C coming out the back is a little warmer because it has more distance to travel, thus more ducting to cool down. It gets colder as it operates, hinting that the ductwork is giving up heat to the A/C airflow. I sat in the third row this past weekend and noticed the A/C got colder as time went on. It was 100F degrees outside BTW.

Sorry for the confusion, I dont doubt it is AC, I just wasn't sure if it eventually, if ever, blows the same as the front since I never spend much time back there to check. I guess I'm proven wrong :)

I wouldn't say you're wrong. It will always be somewhat warmer because it's picking up heat in the ducting as it travels back to the vents. So you're right that it won't ever be as cold as the fronts. I've noticed that it takes the fronts a while to cool the ducting also.

Not to be combative and keep down the rabbit hole, but I'd have to disagree.

The rear vent seems to feel cooler to me than the front vents - when they're on LOW. Which in my opinion is like having the fronts on MED-HI when you compare velocity.

Now crank either blower up to full speed, and the air is not as cool from them because of latency. This is why we never run ours at HI speed even when it's 115+ heat index, because the air is moving so fast accross the evaporator that it can't remove the heat and it never cools down in the car.

This is true for every a/c system, but this vehicle has taken some more getting used to than others for us. I've complained about the a/c at idle, but it seems that it's remedied by turning DOWN the blower. Go figure?

I'd agree this is the case with just about every car -- especially at idle and especially with 4 cylinders it seems.

Posting back to my own thread.
Ending up going with a 2010 Sport Auto with Popular for under $18k+doc,reg,sales tax.

Pretty happy about it. However, how do I dim the dash lights? I find them blinding. Checked the manual but have yet to find out how.

I've a set of FloorLiner DigitalFit floor mat arriving from WeatherTech. And the UK boot/trunk liner - steep pricing! But we'll typically use the car as a 4 seater so I didn't want all sorts of gunk dribbling over the third row, and if it is as good as the one in my Golf it is worth it.

I like the under seat storage in the second row - the headrests will fit in there while we have car seats fitted. So no loosing the headrests.

On the gauge plastic cover, you'll see two knobs. The one on the right is a push button knob to change the trip odometer, the one on the left is a dial to adjust gauge lighting

I addition to having DSC, 2010's don't have side marker(turn signal) repeaters on the sides just in front of the front doors. Also, I think the 2010 models have slightly different interior colors/textures.

I also noticed that the body side moldings aren't there on my 2010 as well as the rear brake discs are solid. The rear discs on my 08 are vented.

One other small (big to some people) change is later 2009's have a regular canister oil filter instead of the cartridge type.

Just curious as to why Mazda decided to take off the side blinkers in front of the front doors. I liked having them on my Speed3 and my current P5. Anything that makes me more visible when I'm changing lanes is a good thing IMO. Also, I know I'm in the minority camp here, but I like the door moldings on the side even if they don't protect from dings the majority of the time. I have seen them work on my P5 and on the Speed3.

I noticed that in the 2010s that the gauges are different (electroluminiscent), but didn't know that they went to solid rear discs instead of vented. Seems like the vented would be better.

Me and my wife will be getting a used Mazda5 at some point in the future...most likely a 2010 since it has ESC, but I wanted to be educated on all of the differences like the OP. I definitely like that they switched from cartridge to canister. It's just what I prefer if I'm changing my own oil at home. Easier, faster, and less messy.

Well now you know where the money came from for the DSC..............

Yet in Canada those things were removed AND the MSRP went up by $300 AND ESC/TC was still an extra cost as part of the $1,295 comfort package lol.

I like the '09 specifically because it doesn't have DSC and traction control; anytime I've had a car w/ trac control, I find that I'm fighting against it. and the 5 handles so well in most all conditions (except in the rain and high winds on the hwy) that i've never felt the need for 'help'.
I like that the '09 has the side markers, and I also am one of those people that likes the side trim (the doors are so tall that the visual break makes it look 'thinner').
mine is a late '09 w/ the regular oil filter also.
I just wish that the car companies would get over this thing about color combos; I hate light interior colors, but they only combine certain interiors w/ certain exterior colors. I would love to have a dark charcoal interior w/ my red mica 5.
