2008 SCCA-Chicago Region Learning Curve Auto-x School

Anyone else going to this? I checked the list of people registered and out of 91 cars there are about 8 mazdas; one RX8, one mazdaspeed miata, one MP3 (me), and the rest are regular miatas. At least for now the weather seems to be good over the weekend (50's and sunny). But judging by the weather predictions lately I wouldn't be surprised to see snow.

I may or may not be there. I have an event going in in the morning so I won't be driving, but I will be helping out if I do go.

I won't be there but the weather is supossed to be awesome.

I took the class last year and it did not dissapoint. Plenty of wheel & ride-along time.

92 signed up (unless people decide to show up and register the morning of)
Weather supposed to be in high 50's - low 60's for both days. Should be fun weekend :)

This weekend racing was awesome! I also have to say, that everything was very well organized and I learned a lot information about both my car and how auto-x works. It seemed that there was 1 instructor for every 2 students which gave a large amount of time for conversation and talking about technique and such, and most importantly DRIVING!!. I think they assign instructors based on there knowledge of similar cars, and my instructor used to have a MSP so that was very helpful. He kept commenting on how good/fun the MP3 is to drive, and that for auto-x he likes it more then he did his MSP. Everyone was very friendly and was happy to give advice.

And as far as how the MP3 performs, I unofficially finished 1st in STS for the student class, out of about 15 cars. The only car faster in STS was a Scion XA with mods driven by an instructor (I think I was a second behind his time). I will wait until they post the official times online before I see what cars I beat overall, but from what I saw the MP3 time was better then a lotus on race tires, and a s2000, and a couple subies...!!

The instructors also got to drive there cars on sunday, and I have to say some of those cars are crazy.

One more thing, anyone have a set of wheels for sale that would be good for auto-x. Driving with the toyo proxes 4 A/S destroys the hell out of them .

Glad you had a good time. I was so wanting to do it or at least come down and help but school has just been killing me. I hope to make it another time this summer.

and the clickyness begins a new chapter......

I would love to try a track event, but since my racing experience is limited I think I would end up like this after the first turn..

As far as the auto-x event, here is a video if anyone wants to watch. And yes, I do see I have a burnt out stop light.
