2008 Console in a 2006

We have a 2006 Touring that we just love... but there are two things I don't love about it.

First, the lack of an arm rest on the passenger side is just unacceptable. But, this can be easily remedied by replacing the seat, I imagine.

Secondly, no rear AC.

Anyone with a 2008+ w/ rear AC ever removed their center console? Does anything feed it? Could I fit one into the 2006 that doesn't have this feature?

2008+ doesn't have rear AC, just a rear fresh air vent.

In the winter it feels like AC.
REALLY? The '09 I rented two weeks back had the rear AC/Vent and it sure felt like it was capable of AC air to me. It only had three buttons (off, low, high) but the air coming out was quite cool/cold (was a hot day too).

I would assume air coming out of the rear vents are controlled by the front so if you have AC turned on for the front unit, the air coming out the rear vent would also be AC. The rear vents are dependent on the front settings and cannot run by itself. All it does is draw air from the front unit (think of it as another vent coming out in the middle of the cabin but due to the length, it has an independent motor to draw the air farther. I would image you can add this by having the right parts (the consold, some light wiring, and tubing).

FWIW, it runs LOUD on the high speed!

Our 2010 Sport does deliver A/C'd air to the rear vent, controlled off/low/high by that rear air control. And yes, "only" a long ol' extension of a central vent from the front climate control "box". Nice to have though, our big dog enjoys having a breeze when he's crated back there in summer.

A common lament is that it won't/can't flow heated air in winter (it has under-seat floor vents for heated air, no separate rear control for those).

Are you sure about that? I was almsot certain the 2008+ models had rear AC. The control for AC are on the front panel but the rear passengers can control the fan speed.

Can soneone who know for certain clear this up?

It's A/C. Heat comes out under the front seats. I suppose the rear A/C could be diverted from the fan that recirculates, and thus bypasses actual A/C and goes to the rear vents, but it's definitely cooled down from outside air. It's not as cold as the fronts, but it is colder than just vented air for sure. It's closer to the front vent temps than it is to the outside air without a doubt. As the A/C continues to run, the rear will get really cold, too. I always figured it was A/C just trying to absorb the heat of the longer rear A/C duct, taking longer to get really cold.

I misspoke, there is rear AC. Just not rear heat, the heat comes out from under the seats as mentioned above.

So in the winter, if the rear vent is turned on there will be very cold air as it is bringing in outside air.
