I have read about people unlocking the DIS on their 07 sports, some on their 08 sports and few on the 08.5 sports by pressing a specific button combination. Does anyone know if it is or is not possible on the 08.5?

DIS... Stability control? DSC? Hold the button down and start the car, it will turn it off until you restart the car or push the button again.

He's talking about the trip computer, which is locked out for non-GT Mazda3/speed3s. This is the procedure:

Hold FM and CD for 5 seconds.
Turn ignition to ACC.
Wait for DIS on.
Turn ignition off, then fully on.
Disconnect negative terminal from the battery and wait a few minutes.
Reconnect the negative terminal.

fin.

EDIT: oh snap, you said '08.5. No, you're SOL. lawl.

But that works on the 08? I tried everything a while ago other than disconnecting my battery and it didnt work.

it will not work on the sport model. You can however buy a used 04-07 stereo off ebay, likely with 6 disc that will have it. I picked up an 07 6 disc stereo from a mazda 3 GT for 55 bucks. Was in perfect shape and took about 15 minutes to swap. Couldn't have been any easier

ok I FINALLY got my 2008 5dr S mazda3 to do this today!!!!!

Here is what I did; some steps may not be necessary.

FIRST
A) I have the 6 CD in dash CD player
B) By turning the ignition to ACC and holding [AM/FM] and [CD] I would get "DIS ON" but the trip computer would not function.

What I did that worked:

1) Disconnect both terminals of the battery.
2) Wait 5 minutes, (I took the time to clean my air filter)
3) Put the key in the ignition and attempt to start the car.
4) Reconnect the battery positive terminal first then ground.
5) Get in car, CLOSE the DOOR.
6) Hold [AM/FM] and [CD] buttons down and then turn key to ACC (you dont need to waste gas) while still holding both buttons.
7) Release the 2 buttons when the stereo Displays "DIS ON".
8) Turn the car back off.
9) Start the car and the trip computer will be where the clock was.

To toggle to the clock use the [CLOCK] button.
To toggle to the trip computer hit the [:00] button.
To toggle between menus while in trip computer mode use the [:00] button.

CONSUM CUR is instantaneous mpg
COMSUM AVG is the average mpg since last rest
The other two are miles to empty and avg speed

TO reset the trip computer hold [:00] button while in trip computer mode.

Please repost this where appropriate.

Hope this has helped many!
Cheers!

Haven't found a single method to work in my 2008.5 MS3, good luck and lemme know if you find one that does work!!

I think for the 08.5 you need to point the car due north, open the right rear door and glove box. Walk counter clockwise with your left hand in your front pocket twice around the car then close everything up, grab a beer and hope Notre Dame gets beat this weekend. ;)

I gave up...Mazda figured it out and locked it up...

North?? I am pretty sure it was east of southeast! LOL

Yep 08 MS3's we are out of luck. But there is a good thread here about replacing the 08 radio with an 07 and it will work. One at the local junk yard is listed for 95 dollars. Not worth it to me for just DIS.

What is the difference in the 07 head units ???

For '08.5 they separated the DIS stuff out of the regular HU so there are actually twice as many p/n's for HUs as there were before. Regular single CD w/ DIS, regular single CD w/o DIS, regular 6CD w/ DIS, etc.....

Like I said on another post in this section. I have an 8.5 metro sport and followed the original directions and it didnt work. I did it a few times and tried a few different ways and all the sudden it came up. I never took off the battery cables and i can only play one cd at a time. I will not try to figure out how I did it because I may never get it to work again but thanks to the original thread it worked for me.

Doesn't work on my 08.5 Sport. I tried a whole bunch of key combinations, etc, no go.

Did you get your head unit replaced, by any chance? If so, I wonder if you got one that already had the DIS software in it....

The 6 CD players, are they MP3 Compatible? I'd swap one out on mine but it's gotta be MP3 compatible or else not worth it.

My '08 GT headunit doesn't play MP3 discs. I believe the '08.5 and '09 models do though.
