Holden Special Vehicles launch new Maloo Ute

Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has unveiled the hottest HSV Maloo R8 Ute ever as part of its 20th birthday celebrations at the 2007 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney today.

Part of the HSV line-up for more than ten years, the Maloo (an aboriginal word for thunder or storm) takes the concept of the sports utility to the next level, with a range of unique-to-HSV features including;

  • Distinct sheet moulded compound (SMC) rear tailgate,
  • 307kW LS2 V8 engine,
  • AP Racing four piston brake package,
  • Group A Walkinshaw inspired side skirt,
  • New gore and suede HSV performance seats,
  • Remote release hard tonneau with release button on main key,
  • Reverse parking sensors and
  • A performance pack option consisting of full leather performance seats and 20 inch wheels.
Managing Director of HSV, Mr Scott Grant, said the Maloo R8 Ute had redefined the Australian Ute market.

Our team have done an outstanding job on producing a Maloo Ute like no other, Scott Grant said.

Maloos striking visual appearance, performance characteristics and range of luxury appointments will make this Ute just as comfortable and distinctive on a dirt track out the back of Bourke or cruising around the inner city streets of Sydney, Melbourne or any number of provincial cities across Australia where the Maloo nameplate has taken the iconic Ute to the next level.
Chief Engineer John Clark said the HSV Maloo R8 truly was a coupe with a damn big boot!
We began working on the all new Maloo Ute at about the same stage as the E series sedan, with the aim of building on the dynamics of the sedan, John Clark said.

This Ute is HSVs most responsive ever and the comprehensive testing program we undertook around Australia and in New Zealand and Sweden, has resulted in the complete driving package.
The HSV Maloo R8 will make a dramatic visual impact on the road with its sleek sail plane and tough curves. Design Manager Julian Quincey and his team spent over two years working toward the end result.

The HSV product group continually pushed the design of our E Series Maloo Ute to the limits and I am extremely pleased with the end result. It really does look like a showcar for the road and it must rate as the sportiest production Ute the world has ever seen, Julian Quincey said.

As an English born and bred designer it is an honour to work on such an Aussie icon as the HSV Maloo and I believe the end result reflects my teams passion for the product.

The Maloo R8 will retail from $59,990 (m). Options include automatic transmission for an extra $2,000 and a performance pack which consists of 20 inch wheels and GTS inspired performance seats. This pack will retail for an additional $3,750.

The HSV Maloo R8 goes on sale from October at HSV Dealerships across Australia.

Ford Mondeo XR5 Turbo Launched in Sydney

9071011.003.Mini1L.jpg

9071011.003.Mini2L.jpg

The all-new fourth generation Ford Mondeo made its public debut in Geneva earlier this year, and now makes its southern hemisphere debut at the Australian Motor Show. After being absent from the Australian market since 2000, factors contributing to giving the Mondeo the green light in Australia once again include strong design, positive European press and a shift towards mid-size vehicles.
This European engineered and designed Mondeo will be available in four versions, which include a base LX, higher spec Zetec and turbo diesel. But the big news is the fourth range topping model, the Mondeo XR5 Turbo.
Not yet available in Europe, the Mondeo XR5 Turbo receives Ford's excellent 2.5 liter Duratex 20-valve 5-cylinder engine currently seen in the Ford Focus XR5 (a.k.a Focus ST in Europe). It produces 162kW (220hp) at 5000 rpm and 320Nm (236 ft-lbs) of torque which is available from 1500rpm up to 4800rpm. The Mondeo X5 Turbo is only available with a six-speed manual transmission.
Mondeo XR5 Turbo interior upgrades include Ford Power keyless start button and an enhanced cluster display with a 15cm premium color screen. On the outside, the Mondeo XR5 Turbo is distinguished by 18-inch alloy wheels, lowered sport suspension and a performance-styled bodykit consisting of front and rear bumpers, fog lamps, and unique upper and lower grilles and rocker panel moulding.
The Mondeo XR5 Turbo Model $RRP is $41,990.

<HR>Press Release

Ford Australia today released details of the most eagerly anticipated new model launch of 2007, the all-new European-engineered Mondeo.
Dramatic design, state of the art safety, innovative features and an attractive recommended retail price will see the new model enjoy the same success in Australia as it has already experienced in Europe.
"Mondeo will introduce new levels of style, refinement and safety to the medium size segment and set a new benchmark for how a car should drive," said Ford Australia President Tom Gorman.
"Exemplary driving dynamics is a key element of Ford DNA and Mondeo is no exception. The new model delivers an outstanding driving experience and customers will be extremely impressed with just how good the overall package is."
Mondeo is the first production iteration of Ford's exciting new 'kinetic design' philosophy, creating a sleek and dynamic profile expressing energy in motion.
"The best way to describe kinetic design is to think about a sprinter at the starting blocks, tilting forward and poised for action it's all about creating an athletic and purposeful stance. This is the image that the new Mondeo portrays, in motion or stationary," said Mr Gorman.
"Elements of kinetic design also apply to the interior of the vehicle and are evident in the ambient lighting, soft-touch materials and attention to detail in the cabin environment."
There are four stylish vehicles in the range including the feature laden LX, a higher specification Zetec, an economical low emission turbo diesel and the range-topping sports performance Mondeo XR5 Turbo.
All models in the range provide for an intuitive, flexible and spacious interior package, offering an intelligent use of space with exceptionally generous luggage capacity.
Mondeo LX is available as a four-door sedan and offers impressive levels of features and safety equipment as standard.
These features include an enhanced Intelligent Protection System (IPS) complemented by Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Dynamic Stability Control and seven airbags, including a drivers knee airbag and full length side curtain airbags.
Other innovative developments consist of a capless refuelling feature with mis-fuel inhibitor, an automatic hazard warning light and optional voice control command of Bluetooth, audio, climate and phone control systems.
The higher specification Mondeo Zetec is available in either four-door sedan or five-door hatch and comes standard with the same IPS as appears on the LX model.
It is differentiated externally by 17-inch alloy wheels and enhanced grille and fog lamps. Features over and above the LX include a Sony premium sound system (a six-disc CD player with eight speakers and MP3 compatibility), rain sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, cruise control and a leather wrapped steering wheel.
Both the LX and Zetec feature the 2.3-litre Duratec four-cylinder petrol engine producing 118kW and 208Nm, which is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with Sequential Sports Shift.
The new Mondeo TDCi features an advanced 2.0-litre Duratorq four-cylinder common-rail turbo diesel engine that delivers on the key expectations of a modern diesel car - impressive refinement, large car performance and superior fuel efficiency.
The acclaimed TDCi diesel engine produces 96kW of power and peak torque of 320Nm from an easily accessible 1750rpm.
The stylish four-door sedan or five-door hatch comes with all the comforts found in a Zetec model and also has a six-speed automatic transmission as standard.
"The automatic provides for a smoother drive and better performance," said Mr Gorman.
"Gear changes in automatic guise become virtually indiscernible and the six-speed transmission's more efficient delivery of power to the ground is able to provide exceptional fuel economy."
The exciting new Mondeo XR5 Turbo is the sports-performance model of the range. Utilising the same 2.5-litre Duratec 20-valve five-cylinder turbo engine as appears in the Focus XR5 Turbo, it will sit alongside other XR performance variants in the Ford portfolio.
It offers the same safety and creature comforts as the Zetec and TDCi variants, but is given further visual appeal through the addition of 18-inch alloy wheels, lowered sport suspension and a performance-styled bodykit consisting of front and rear bumpers, fog lamps, and unique upper and lower grilles and rocker panel moulding.
New driver-focused technologies found in the XR5 Turbo include keyless start via a 'Ford Power' start button.
Ford's new Human Machine Interface is available across the range. Consisting of easily accessible steering wheel mounted controls and an easy to read cluster display, HMI means the driver's hands never have to leave the wheel to read relevant vehicle related information such as radio, phone and personalised settings.
The Mondeo XR5 Turbo offers an enhanced cluster display featuring a 15cm premium colour screen.
Peak power of 162kW is realised at 5000 rpm and the maximum 320Nm of torque is available from a user-friendly 1500rpm all the way through to 4800rpm.
To further enhance the sports pedigree of the XR5 Turbo, it is only available with a six-speed manual transmission.
The two petrol Mondeo powertrains deliver fuel economy of 9.5-litres per 100km, which improves to an excellent 7.3-litres per 100 km with the diesel engine.
"In the case of the diesel this equates to a range of more than 950km^, or enough to travel from Melbourne to Sydney with enough remaining to drive around once you arrive," said Mr Gorman.
In light of the impressive array of safety equipment and standard specification, the recommended retail price of all models sets a new benchmark for the segment.
The LX has a recommended retail price of $29,990, the Zetec and TDCi have recommended retail prices of $34,990 and $37,990 respectively, and the Mondeo XR5 Turbo is $41,990*.
There is also an optional 'Cruise Pack' available to LX customers to further enhance and personalise their new vehicle.
It consists of 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, a leather wrapped steering wheel and rear power windows. It has a recommended retail price of $1,500.
"New Ford Mondeo marks a step change for Ford in terms of design and technology," said Mr Gorman.
"With the arrival of Mondeo, Ford now has our strongest ever portfolio of imported small to medium passenger cars, giving us the ability to deliver an even greater range of desirable new vehicles to our customers."

Making it's world debut today at the Australian International Motor Show, the New Holden VE Commodore Sportwagon, adding a new model to the VE Commodore's family of vehicles.

The New Sportwagon aims to put the excitement back into practicality, but unfortunately when Holden's chairman Chris Gubbey strikes us with the line turns practi-cal into practi-cool, I kinda find myself wanting to look away. However the car does itself justice featuring a sleek and striking design.
The front end styling is drawn straight from the sedan with the backend sporting a silhouette type look to give that extra sporty touch.
The Vehicle on display at the Australian Motor Show is only a production concept which incorporates a V8 engine with Active fuel Management and E85 flex fuel capabilities, showcasing General Motors aims to highlight their capabilities in propulsion advances. As you can expect this concept model has extra eye candy features such as 20 inch alloy wheels, chrome window trim and a unique interior colour scheme. Other additional features can be found in the interior including a roof mounted DVD player for all those who have screaming kids in the back as well as bluetooth capabilities.
The VE Commodore Sportwagon will hit Holden showrooms early next year.

Luxury, Flexibility and Choice Reflect Holden's Motor Show Line Up

GM Holden's sleek new VE Commodore Sportwagon made its world debut today at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.
The new family vehicle takes VE Commodore's award-winning sporty design and engineering advances and integrates them into a stylish and practical wagon.
The result is a desirable and functional addition to the VE range, offering a new level of comfort, safety and styling in a Holden wagon.
GM Holden Chairman and Managing Director Chris Gubbey said, "The new VE Commodore Sportwagon puts the excitement back into practicality. This is a car for families with a 'get-up-and-go' attitude.
"The generous interior space, combined with sleeker, sportier styling, makes this a wagon that people will want to own as a year-round family car, or for family and business use.
"Holden's new VE Sportwagon turns practi-'cal' into practi-'cool'," said Gubbey.
The VE Commodore Sportwagon unveiled in Sydney today is a production-based concept vehicle. It is the first glimpse of the planned production model scheduled to hit Holden showrooms in the first half of 2008.
The vehicle draws on VE sedan at the front with a sleek and sporty silhouette at the back and is built on the same VE wheelbase. It is the third VE derivative after sedan and the newly released ute range.
Features

At the rear, Holden's designers have cleverly created a wider opening by positioning the tailgate hinge well forward into the roof line. This has created a more vertical opening movement for the tailgate and reduces opening space required around the car.
The higher cargo floor makes loading easier and a flexible cargo cover provides extra security for items stored in the back.
VE Sportwagon seats five adults in comfort and a 60:40 split in the rear seating row can be folded flat for storing larger items.
The motor show display model includes a roof mounted DVD player, Bluetooth capability, multi-function driver information display system and zone-based front and rear park assist systems - all currently standard on the VE Calais V-Series sedan. Features on the vehicle unique to the motor show include 20-inch alloy wheels, chrome window trim and unique interior colour combination.
VE Commodore Sportwagon's pricing, model line-up and powertrain combinations will be confirmed closer to the on-sale date, but expect to see a similar type of strategy to VE sedan, with entry level cars, sports models and luxury models ranging up to the luxurious VE Calais V-Series.
Leading safety technology features such as ESP will be standard across the range.
Holden's Executive Director Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, Alan Batey, said, "Sportwagon breaks the mould for Holden wagons. It's got great style, performance and practicality for families, businesses or both.
"Customers will get a car that's equally at home as a working tool or a desirable family car - with all the storage advantages that come with a wagon.
"We've added important safety features such as ESP as standard, and more luxury versions will be incorporated into the range to further increase its appeal to families.
"This is a vehicle that people will desire for its looks as well as its convenience over a sedan or an SUV," he said.
Technology

The concept model on display at the Australian International Motor Show also incorporates a V8 engine featuring Active Fuel Management (AFM) and E85 flex fuel capability. Active Fuel Management allows cylinders to turn off under light load conditions to improve fuel economy.
The engine on show runs the same spark ignition, with fuelling matched to the same equivalence ratio as Holden's current production V8 engine. It is designed to match the power and torque outputs of its petrol equivalent. The use of AFM and E85 technologies in this motor show vehicle aims to highlight General Motors' capabilities in new propulsion advances.
Chris Gubbey explains, "Showcasing an E85 fuel system in this vehicle makes a powerful statement about Holden and GM's commitment to developing alternative energy sources that reduce our dependence on petroleum-based products.
"It also demonstrates that drivers of alternative fuel vehicles don't have to sacrifice performance.
"Our sister brand Saab has led the way in promoting bio fuel technology to advance the public, political and commercial debate in this area. We want to add our voice to that debate whilst simultaneously looking at ways to further reduce fuel consumption in our existing engines."
The current VE sedan range of vehicles on sale in Australia are all E10 compatible with Holden's V6 engine built in Melbourne also converted to E24 in Commodores exported to Brazil.

FPV (Ford Performance Vehicles) in Australia has always had the intention of producing cars not just based on the Falcon, and today they have released their first non-Falcon project. The Ford FPV F6 X is based on the Ford Territory and will be available early 2008.
Ford themselves have already tuned up the Territory to 245 kW, but FPV manages to extract 270 kW (362 hp) of power and 550 Nm of torque out of the F6 270 Turbo 4.0 liter DOHC in-line six-cylinder engine. The ZF six-speed automatic transmission delviers the power to the road through a full-time All Wheel Drive system. In order to put the car to a halt again, FPV have installed Brembo six-piston front calipers and have re-calibrated the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) systems.
The interior is adorned in two-tone Shadow and Pumice leather with its fair share of FPV logos on the instrument cluster, pedals and scuff plates. The ICC (Interior Command Centre) is finished in a unique Molten Metal accent color.
On the exterior, the FPV F6 X received a mesh grille insert, rear spoiler, alloy running boards in a body colored surround, Molten Metal accents on the front skid plate and 18 inch 5 spoke alloy wheels in Alpine Sivler finish.
"The new F6 X is designed for the family that enjoys performance vehicle motoring and appreciates a true sports luxury feel," FPV General Manager Rod Barrett said.

"The new F6 X is designed for the family that enjoys performance vehicle motoring and appreciates a true sports luxury feel."
Derived from Ford's Territory vehicle family, the FPV F6 X is equipped with the class leading high-performance F6 270 Turbo 4.0-litre DOHC in-line six-cylinder engine, producing 270kW of power and 550Nm of torque, matched to the ZF six-speed automatic transmission and a full-time All-Wheel-Drive system.
The F6 X is fitted with a number of the advanced active and passive safety features, including Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control and four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Side curtain airbags and dual-stage driver and front passenger airbags are also fitted as standard equipment.
The braking performance of the F6 X is enhanced by the fitment of Brembo six-piston front calipers and a new FPV calibration for the ABS and DSC systems. FPV engineers have re-tuned the ride and handling to produce a firmer sports feel, further enhancing the primary ride control of the vehicle.
Exclusive two-toned leather interior

The cabin of the F6 X includes a unique Shadow and Pumice two-tone seat trim, along with six-way power adjustment and three position memory for the driver's seat. "The unique styling of the leather seats is a standout, eye-catching feature of the F6 X and contributes to the sports luxury feel that permeates the entire vehicle," said Barrett. The two-tone treatment is continued through to the third row on the seven-seat variant.
The instrument cluster features the FPV logo, an engine speed red line and distinctive FPV blue illumination, while FPV scuff plates and alloy pedals add to the list of interior appointments. Each vehicle comes with its own unique build plate mounted on the gear selector surround. The premium Interior Command Centre (ICC), with dual zone automatic climate control and large colour screen, is finished in a unique Molten Metal accent colour, while the leather door trim inserts are finished in Pumice.
External accents stand out from the crowd

Unique F6 X exterior styling cues include a high-tech front mesh grille insert, as well as a rear spoiler and alloy running boards with a matching body colour surround. The exterior design also features Molten Metal accents on the front skid plate, bonnet air scoop, door mirror scalps and rear skid plate, while 18-inch five-spoke alloys in an Alpine Silver finish are also exclusive to the F6 X. Exterior paint colours on the F6 X include Winter White, Platinum Haze, Seduce, Dash, Nitro, Sensation, Ego and Silhouette.

The Touareg R50: World Premiere in Sydney

Impressive power: The V10 TDI of the Touareg R50 develops 350 PS of power and 850 Newton-meter of torque

Exclusive features: Distinctive exterior, leather sport seating system, 21-inch wheels and air suspension sport chassis

Wolfsburg, 08 October 2007 - In a world premiere, Volkswagen will be presenting the Touareg R50 on October 11 at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. Its power of 258 kW / 350 PS (at 3,500 rpm) positions the new Touareg version among the most powerful SUVs in the world. The Touareg R50 can be ordered in Germany at prices starting at 88,260 Euro; it will be introduced to the market this November.

The engine characteristic of the Touareg R50 is marked by a torque level nearly unattainable by the competition: The V10 TDI of the Touareg R50 develops its enormous power of 850 Newton-meter at a low 2,000 rpm. The turbo diesel was derived from the well-known ten cylinder with 230 kW / 313 PS. Adjustments to its turbo charging and modified engine management enabled a 28 kW / 37 PS increase in power and a considerable 100 Newton-meter increase in maximum torque. Under these new parameters, the SUV accelerates to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds (production car: 7.4 seconds); its top speed is 235 km/h. In relation to engine power and vehicle size, the fuel consumption of the production ten-cylinder diesel equipped with a particulate filter is a moderate 9.6 liters per 100 km (highway) and 12.6 liters per 100 km (overall). Despite big gains in power and torque, its DIN fuel consumption values have remained constant compared to the Touareg V10 TDI.

In keeping with the performance potential of the R50, Volkswagen Individual designed new exterior and interior features according to the R philosophy. From the outside, the new Touareg R50 is easy to recognize with its 21-inch Omanyt type alloy wheels and size 295 tires, blue painted brake calipers, discrete wheel well flares, side skirts and distinctive bumpers (Sport Design Package), as well as a modified radiator grille (in a matte finish chrome).

Offered exclusively on the Touareg R50 is the car color "Biscay blue". Blue hues of this type have been typical of the high-powered R models since the first Golf R32 was introduced in the year 2002. Offered as optional car colors on the Touareg R50 are "Campanella white", "Reflex silver", "Black Magic" and "Atacam gray".

The cars extensive features also include an air suspension sport chassis: The so-called "Driving dynamics package with adaptive roll compensation" and chassis lowered by twenty millimeter supplements the "Sport" mode of the manually or automatically controlled air suspension by achieving a stiffer spring rate.

On the inside, the SUVs features include a sport seating system in anthracite-colored nappa leather with R50 logo integrated in the headrests. The logo was also integrated in the stainless steel tread plates. Also in keeping with the sporty character of the Touareg is the light-colored "engine spin" decor of the interior a metallic structure similar to that previously used on race cars as well as metal worked caps for the accelerator and brake pedals. A R50 logo also decorates the gearshift lever of the six-speed automatic transmission (Tiptronic). Standard features the Touareg R50 also include a winter package (including seat heating for the rear seats), the Premium Memory Package (including electrically adjustable seats, steering column and seatbelt height), net partition behind the rear seats and a ski sack.
