Has anyone raced one of these (at the track ahem) with their MS3? I'm just curious since they pack more than the other models with the 80% redesigned VQ engine that has twin-intake system pushing 306whp/268lbs-tq.

Just curious.

IMHO the new VQ is a different league, to keep up with one an MS3 would have to push the limits of FWD, I would imagine CAI and Exhaust would (and then some) be needed for a chance to keep up

Whatcha mean by "push the limits of FWD" exactly...??

Yeah, the revised VQs are pretty sick. Really impressive motors. An intake and racepipe equipped MS3 should be a good run for the 07s.

I eman the FWD can be very fast, just look at the ms3 :) But I'm afraid that drivers being equal the MS3's tires will really be at the limit of adhesion trying to keep up with a 350z with an equally competent driver. The power difference, starts to become an issue, on the tires when you raise FWD power. I think that makes sense. Not taking away from amazing FWD machines though the MS3 can clock faster laps than an S2000!

The Z is also faster than the S2000. I think it might be a drivers race however. The Z is a tad on the heavy side, usually about 3200lbs for a stick, add on another 150lbs for the track model, and I think another 200 for the convertible variant. Motor Trend Magazine has put the 350z as such:
287/274 - 5.3sec 0-60 - 13.77sec@100.94mph qtr mile
287/274 convertible - 5.8sec 0-60 - 14.2sec@98.2mph qtr mile
300/260 convertible - 5.7sec 0-60 - 14.3sec@98.7mph qtr mile

For 2003-2005 it was 287hp, except for the 35th anniversary and track models which were 300hp. 2006 was 300hp and added variable exhaust (all models have variable intake). With the new twin intake VQ I'm figuring they should finally get a sub 5 second 0-60 time, but who knows?

I went to a MTMA fun run a little while ago and there were two kids with MS3's. I wanted to race them with my WRX just to see what they were like, but once the kids heard what I had done to my WRX, they said there wasn't any point.

FWIW - I'm not that great of a driver with my WRX(or at least to common WRX thinking). I don't beat on my car, and I don't launch it either. I usually just drive it off the line, if I want a little more I might bring the revs up to like 2500 and slip the clutch up to about 3500. I've had tons of WRX/STI owners assure me I am not going to damage anything by revving up to 5k and launching the car - I'm just not believing them. Assuming someone can nail their launch, they should destroy me or at least get a nice jump.

My stock clutch lasted me 70,000 miles, and was still fine, only slipped at high rev shifts for a moment. I replaced it with an Exedy Organic Stage 1 simply because I wanted to see the difference. I figured the stock clutch didn't owe me anything.

just check the weight, around 3340lb-3400 for roadster, 3600lb for convertible
The "Roadster" is the convertible, the hardtop is referred to as the "Coupe".

The Z has also grown heavier over time, the 2003/2004 models were:

[SIZE=-1]Curb Weight : 3188-3347 lbs(coupe)/3445-3479 lbs(convertible)

I'd attribute the extra weight to larger rims, dual xenon headlamps, revised suspension(cuz the 2003-2004 had a TSB for waaay premature tire wear), and small changes to the drivetrain components(such as variable exhaust).

brainfart lol oops. ya the weight was for the 2007 350z

As posted by FSDE: Motortrend says the following times for a track run:

Mazdaspeed3 GT
Best lap (min:sec): 1:50.375
73.0 mph avg
1.31g peak lateral acceleration

Honda S2000
Best lap (MIN:SEC) : 1:50.738
72.8 mph avg
1.40g peak lateral acceleration

You can tell by the g's the S2K has better handling yet the MS3 better overall acceleration and more torque coming out of the curves. We all know the S2K has the problem with low end torque...or torque at all.

Car & Driver posted a 5.2 0-60mph on the 07 350Z and a 13.7@104mph the 1/4. Saw it on the magazine, dont know if they have it on their web site.

The Zed beated the Ford Mustang Shelby GT from 0-20mph, then the Shelby beated the Z from 0-60mph (5.1) then it got the same exact 1/4 time and trap of 13.7@104mph and then the Z got the Stang by 0.1 from 0-100mph. Best time around the track was the Z. Thats all I can remember, but now that I look at it online, I didnt know the RX-8 had won the comparison LOL. ZOOM ZOOM!!! hehe.

at least the new Z is lighter lighter than the earlier model Z the 300zx, mine which is a twin turbo t-top, weighs over 4500lbs the convertible weighs more, but there are different model 300zx, N/A, TT, T-TOP, HARDTOP, CONVERTIBLE, RWD FRONT STEERING, RWD W/HICAS(QUAD STEERING) theres alot that nissan does over the years especially with the Z that get heavier as years pass. but the 300zx tt still holds the Le Mans title for breaking a recorded speed since the early 90s and still hasntr been broken and won other the Le Mans for a couple of years, o and the tranny on these Zed's are bullet proof unlike the dealer at mazda told me that my 3's tranny is like bullet proof

Holy s***, they used a Base 350Z. No LSD, no TCS - I'm kinda surprised at that. The LSD might have helped a little bit.

ive driven the new VQ, both on the manual g35 and new 350z. from my experience, once the VQ gets a reving, it has some good grunt. it has more linear pull than what we have. a few simple mods will keep the ms3 on par with a stock VQ, but when a VQ gets modded, even with only CAI, i think it will be hard even for a light modded ms3 to keep up. MHO.

yea thats true....but for the price...only old men wil be driving or young leasers.....so nothing serious would be done to a majority of them.....intake and exhaust on that would beat us bad...will be nice to see one and get a good race goin.

intake and exhaust and we walk all over the new z's....

uhmm no. a freind of mine has an 03 350z with a SRI and i dont walk all over him at all. As a matter of fact, its just about dead even

^Gofast^ You have stock MS3, or do you have any bolt ons? Not bad i'd say if you're keeping up with the 350.
