I have a 2005 6, 2.3l automatic, car has about 85,000 miles on it. A while back I noticed when I was driving and I released the gas pedal i hear a fairly loud "shing" sound. it fades as you release the gas pedal. NO ONE seems to be able to figure out what it is. I've had mazda look at it before, and other mechanics too.
It doesnt do this ALL the time, but it does it often. I cant reproduce the sound by brake torquing either, which makes me think it might be a trans problem. The car cant be in park, it wont happen, it has to be in drive and in motion. Although I have heard a rattle while sitting at a light, if I put it in neutral it goes away, but I think these might be two different issues.
So far the dealer had me change the trans fluid, no fix. Replaced the Alternator, no fix. I changed the belt and tensioner pully, no fix.
Has anyone else had this issue? It's driving me crazy!
