2004 RX8 Recall!

Bone Down

Hey im not a Mazda owner or anything (member due to GI Owned), but came across this article in the local news print thought I would share.

Sorry in advance if this is a repost.

Vehicle: 2004 Mazda RX8
Problem: Cracks might occur in the ball joint socket, causing the ball to separate from the socket. This might result in a loss of steering control and a crash. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the control arms. Owners should call Mazda at 800-222-5500.

I just received a recall yesterday. I called and got my car in and out of there shortly. No biggie.

Actually mine was about parking it and operating the engine at high RPMs, which sounds like a stupid idea anyway. It can cause the car to blow up.

Yeah, they install an insulator pad underneath the fuel tank. After hearing about all the different recalls, and how senseless some are (RX-8 recall with the insulator pad, Mazda 5 with the complete recall), it would make you think that Mazda doesn't really test the cars out before they hit the market.

Yeah thats a pain in the neck recall. They tell you to use a spatula to put it in....like we have cooking utensils in our toolboxes...

Thats not bad, they had one for late model dodge durangos to prevent the front wheels from coming off the truck. I remember taking it in and asking "how exactly does one prevent that?"

I remember this from a couple years ago...they used too soft of an alloy or something in a certain type of wheel without increasing the size of the lugnuts used to keep them on...after a while, the metal would bend around the too small lugnuts and ultimately snap when going around corners, thus literally driving off the wheels. At least that's what I heard from a friend who had one that lost a wheel while driving. So funny... (everyone was ok)
Conversation from about 5 or 6 years back:
"so my mom had her new car out the other day, and she lost a wheel..."
"Wait, what do you mean she 'lost a wheel'?"
"she lost a wheel"
"like out the back of the trunk or something, the spare rolled out?"
"no, a wheel came off the car and rolled away, as the car dropped down onto the brakes and axel..."
"holy s***..."

I've already had this recall done to mine. Unfortunately they need to recall my entire RX-8 for the overheating, tranny grinding, and engine misfiring... :(

Well the ball joint wasn't really a Q&A issue as it only affects a limited batch of the parts made.

And the thermal damage is the stupidist thing ever...

"Hey if you sit there and hold your revs high for a few minutes in hot weather you will start to melt things."

Ok who is sitting still, hold their revs high for minutes on end..and repeatly!!!!

Sorry thermal was gay, and the ball joint is a small thing...expect if it breaks :)
