2004 P5's

Hold on before you jump wagons. The protege will be here in the United States until 2004.

2005 will mark the intro of the mazda3 here in the states. Which means fall 2004 you will see the Mazda3. So yes there will be 2004 proteges and protege5's.

Also Mazda is starting to see problems with the 2.3 Liter motor so it may delay the start of production of the Mazda3. Car and Driver Online.

I had heard that the 3 will start apearing here in late 2003, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so. I'm fairly certain there will not be a 2004 P5

Are you talking about just a name change or a totally different platform? and where can you find any info on it?

Lucky for you it's all here...we have a Mazda 3 forum on this site! I hope the new owners will make this community there home...spread the word people!

Hmm...you didn't notice my slick Mazda 3 banner?

I copy and pasted this from the mazda3 forum. Don't know it it's true, though.

Job1 for North American Mazda3 production is slated for Sep 16., and should reach the U.S. around Nov, Dec.

P5 production has now stopped, but I've confirmed that many dealers have stock-piled them in anticipation of the model changeover, so finding good selection in August is no problem.

Yeah, I posted that on the Mazda3 forum. There is no 2004 Protege or Protege5, both will be replaced by the Mazda3. MazdaUSA even has a little flash animation for the 2004 Mazda3 (go to upcoming models on their website).

Frankfurt, Frankfurt, Frankfurt!!! Jeebus F'n Chirstmas people. Mazda will make their announcement at the Frankfurt autoshow in September. Any info before that is simply hear-say.

Being as the Mazda Axela (Japanese home market)/ 3 (world market)/ Protege (Canadian market) is already in production, that would easily imply that the current Mazda Familia / 323 / Protege & Protege-5 is already out of production. Mazda Motor Corporation's own announcement stated that...and that the car would debuy at the Frankfurt International Auto Show in September 2003, with European sales commencing immediately thereafter. Mazda Canada expects the 4th generation Mazda Protege sedan / Protege-5 hatchback (they're keeping the nameplate the same for Canada due to the strong sales in Quebec due to the french-language tie-in, which has the Protege outselling the Honda Civic...something that it does no where else in the world) to be on sale by December 2003 as a 2004 model. The US, save for the name change to Mazda 3 is no different...they'll have it too by December.

The 1999-2003 car is dead...RIP.

Based on everything I've read, the Mazda3 comes out at the very latest in the first quarter of 2004, probably more like the end of 2003. I've seen no estimates later than that. But as people have been saying, Frankfurt will provide answers! (Too bad we're too impatient for that :)

Some website started the rumor that it was delayed until 2005, but that apears to be completely false. As people here have already said, December 2003 is the planned release.
