Look what Mazda did for us....What do you think?

Mazda Motor Corporation is extending the warranty coverage on Rotary Engine Core Components on all 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 model year RX-8 vehicles. The warranty coverage for the Rotary Engine Core Components is extended to 8 years (96 months) from the original warranty start date, with a 100,000 mileage limitation.

The following is a list of components covered by this warranty:

Rotary Engine Core

Rotary Housing and Internal Parts

Internal Seals and Gaskets

This is not a recall. This is a warranty extension for the specified parts only. Inspection and replacement of non-failed parts will not be eligible for reimbursement to the dealer or customer. This program extends the warranty period for actual failures due to defects in workmanship or materials in accordance with Mazda Warranty Policy and Procedures.

Is this applicable to original owners only? Just curious, as it could influence my decision about my next vehicle.

Brings our value UP! Go out and buy one with a blown engine(cheap) under 100K, check Vin first to see if Mazda would cover it.

it only covers the keg part of the engine though, so it's nice, but i would like more, like includding the transmission too... sigh...

Better than nothing...Interesting turn of events and another good reason to pickup a "pre-owned" 8! (thumb)

Me thinks this is a way to dodge a recall...

huh?

methinks it would be easier to "dodge a recall" by not extending the warranty, and just stating "whoops, you're out of warranty, heres the price of a new motor".

As far as I know, recalls are not affected by your warranty coverage. Recalls are offered free of charge, no matter the age of the vehicle. TSBs are affected by warranty, and are covered as long as the vehicle is still under warranty.
